Description

We are seeking a talented and motivated environmental attorney to be based in Seattle or the Washington, DC area to support Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS provides innovative cloud computing services and IT infrastructure to public and private clients around the globe, including on-demand compute capacity, data storage, content delivery, browsers, and more. The successful candidate will join the AWS Legal Regulatory Risk Management & Compliance team focusing on environmental compliance of AWS’s facilities and operations across North and South America. You will be part of a team that counsels Amazon’s data center business and compliance teams on a broad range of environmental, regulatory, and compliance matters.

This role will give the successful candidate an opportunity to join a collaborative, tight-knit team that is leading exciting and pioneering global initiatives as part of a business that is making history. Some travel, domestic and international, will be required.

Key job responsibilities

  • Providing day-to-day advice on compliance issues
  • Monitoring and advising the business of upcoming environmental regulatory changes
  • Developing and improving compliance policies and programs
  • Working cross-functionally with other data center teams to ensure compliance
  • Negotiating commercial transactions with environmental vendors
  • Handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
  • 2+ years of post-qualification legal experience as a licensed attorney
  • Legal experience in environmental compliance and litigation matters

Preferred Qualifications

  • High degree of independence, initiative, decisiveness, and creative thinking
  • Ability to partner effectively with business stakeholders
  • Previous data center compliance experience
  • One or more years of law firm or in-house experience
  • Excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience writing successfully for a diverse range of audiences

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $195,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
