The VP, Compliance reports directly to the Chief Compliance Officer and may focus on developing, implementing and maintaining the compliance advisory team; or focus on regulatory advisory, governance and oversight, compliance risk assessment, policy and procedure review and approval, training content, regulatory issues oversight and complaint management; lead respective teams in assigned functional area.
Responsibilities
Compliance Risk Assessment and Testing
- Alongside the Chief Compliance Officer, oversees the Compliance Management System specific to the Default Servicing Provides leadership and guidance to the Compliance Advisory team
- Develops, implements, and maintains the Compliance Testing specific to Default servicing which is conducted to evaluate and validate the compliance control environment
- Ensures assigned testing and risk assessment responsibilities are performed timely with high level of quality documentation and report writing skills
- Requires owner assignment, root cause analysis and remediation plan documentation for each finding from the applicable areas within the designated timeframe
- Approves final report for submission to the Chief Compliance Officer
- Ensures all violations of law are managed and tracked through the Issues Management System; credibly challenge Compliance Impact Ratings assigned
- Performs follow up validation remediation action on the low compliance impact rating issues to ensure it was effective in design and implementation
- Provides day-to-day guidance to the Risk Assessment and Testing Teams and effectively answers their day-to-day questions and issues
- Provides oversight of the KRI program, ensures all KRI changes are properly approved and validated in accordance with the program and procedure; Manages monthly client and internal reporting and holds meetings as necessary to discuss failures of KRIs
- Serves as the backup to the Chief Compliance Officer, when needed
- Works with managers to develop and monitor individual and departmental goals and provides effective feedback and guidance on a regular basis;
- Holds advisors and analysts accountable for meeting these goals
- Lead effective performance management and professional talent development across all respective departments
- Ensures all activities are in accordance with company and regulatory risk and compliance requirements
- Regularly evaluates Risk Assessment and Testing programs for enhancements/updates to ensure compliance with most recent regulatory guidance and best practices
Compliance Program Management
- Alongside the Chief Compliance Officer, oversees the Compliance Management System
- Provides leadership and guidance to the Compliance Program Management Team
- Provides oversight and governance of the Compliance Advisory function; Oversees the Advisory team that is responsible for compliance review and approval of changes to policies, procedures, disclosures, letters, scripts, etc.;
- Provides oversight and governance of the regulatory issues with compliance impact, ensuring any issues with compliance impact receive compliance impact ratings, applicable requirements are identified, and Management Action Plans are reviewed and approved; Provides guidance to business units on lookback logic and remediation strategies
- Provides enterprise project support for all projects approved within the organization to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Routinely reviews the Compliance Program as a whole to identify areas of enhancement or modification due to regulatory handbook changes or other guidance available
- Assists the Chief Compliance Officer in the creation of Board and Management Reporting for Compliance Program Management
- Assists the Chief Compliance Officer with additional compliance related reporting for distribution to Clients
- Serves as the backup to the Chief Compliance Officer, when needed
- Works with managers to develop and monitor individual and departmental goals and provides effective feedback and guidance on a regular basis;
- Holds managers accountable for meeting these goals.

- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, include but not limited to compliance and operational risk. Demonstrate consideration for Cenlar’s reputation as well as our clients, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards Ensure all activities are in accordance with Cenlar’s approved risk appetite statement and applicable compliance and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 12 years of experience in banking/mortgage compliance
- Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) Certification is recommended
- Strong understanding of functional expertise relating to regulatory change management or compliance program management, preferably within a mortgage servicing company; risk management concepts, framework, methods and governance.
- Strong management skills. Minimum of 5 or more years’ experience in people and team management
- Must be able to build effective relationships with a proven ability to build trust and credibility through strong interpersonal skills, communications, actions, and presence
- Excellent leadership skills demonstrated through ownership of issues seen through to resolution, providing sound guidance to others, and positively influencing organizational culture.
