Role Overview

Could you be our next Assistant General Counsel?Globe Life is looking for an Assistant General Counsel to join the team!

In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing claim-related issues, handling complaint correspondence, as well as providing legal counsel to various departments of the Company’s subsidiaries. This role will provide legal support and advice to various departments of the Company’s subsidiaries, including the departments of Underwriting/New Business, Customer Service, and Agency. T he work arrangement would consist of a hybrid remote / in-office schedule with an in-office location of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

This is a hybrid position located in Oklahoma City, OK ( WFH Monday & Friday, In Office Tuesday-Thursday) .

What You Will Do

Attorney will counsel the Claims Department on matters involving policy rescissions, claims denials, powers of attorney, minor beneficiaries, beneficiary disputes, lapsed coverage disputes, and other matters escalated to the Legal Department from the Claims Department involving life and supplemental health insurance policies. This role will review and answer time-sensitive complaint correspondence from customers, Departments of Insurance, the Better Business Bureau, and attorneys. This role may liaise with in-house attorneys who oversee the Company’s litigation. Attorney will serve as a critical business partner to enable growth across the Company’s subsidiaries. Attorney will demonstrate or develop subject matter expertise in the legal and regulatory framework applicable to life and supplemental health insurers across all jurisdictions in which the Company’s subsidiaries do business. This role may collaborate with the Regulatory Department for Market Conduct Exams and Department of Insurance inquiries. Attorney will develop relationships with key personnel and department leaders across the Company’s subsidiaries. Attorney will perform other tasks and projects in the Legal Department as assigned. From time to time, this role will be asked to assist other attorneys with, or be responsible for, other matters, including contract review, marketing or advertising review, legal research, and/or other special projects.

What You Can Bring

Juris Doctor is required. Must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in any state. Prior customer service experience is desired but not required. Prior insurance industry experience is not required but would be a plus. Prior in-house legal department experience is not required but would be a plus. Excellent time management skills are essential for success in this position. Ability to meet critical deadlines across multiple active workflows is required. Prioritization, personal accountability, and responsiveness are required. Strong interpersonal skills, tact, diplomacy, and a high level of professionalism are required. Must be a strong communicator, both verbally and in writing. Must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to issue-spot for areas of legal concern. Ability to work well independently and within a team setting. Must possess comprehensive understanding of attorney/client privilege. Willingness to learn the legal and regulatory framework of the insurance industry is required (if not already familiar). Must receive direction well in a fast-paced environment. Strong writing skills required, such as accurate use of grammar, correct spelling, and attention to detail. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams. Ability and willingness to learn and become proficient in other software and internal systems. Adhere to the Legal Rules of Professional Responsibility. Maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information. Ability to research law across all states in the U.S., with an understanding of conflict of laws principles.
