GEICO is seeking a highly skilled, motivated and detail-oriented individual to serve as Senior Counsel, Corporate Law in the Legal Operations, Commercial & Corporate Law Division of its Legal Department. The Senior Counsel, Corporate will report to the Associate General Counsel & Corporate Secretary and be part of a team providing broad corporate law support to GEICO’s Finance organization and overseeing the corporate governance of GEICO’s entities. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-growing legal team and to work on strategically important matters. The Senior Counsel, Corporate will provide legal advice on a wide variety of matters, including treasury, sanctions, compliance, corporate governance, and regulatory reporting. An ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong judgment, strong research and writing skills, excellent prioritization skills, and an eagerness to be involved in a dynamic company. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide corporate law legal advice to cross-functional stakeholders and senior leadersPrepare and review relevant company policies and proceduresAdvise on various compliance initiativesAssist with corporate governance of GEICO and its subsidiariesOversee compliance with applicable laws and regulations and conduct legal research and analysisCommunicate with state and local regulatory bodiesManage outside counsel

Required Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law schoolAdmission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction7-10 years of corporate law experience at a law firm, government, and/or in-houseStrong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skillsUnderstanding of the key legal issues germane to an organizationExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyersDemonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projectsExperience working with cross-functional teams, both legal and non-legalExperience managing outside counsel

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with insurance industryExperience with sanctions, compliance, treasury, licensing and/or regulatory mattersExperience in subsidiary entity governance

Location - Hybrid: This is a hybrid role that will require 3 days working onsite at GEICO’s office in NYC or Chevy Chase, MD

Travel: < 15%

Annual Salary

$162,000.00 - $254,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
