The Role and Team

A phenomenal opportunity exists within Medallia’s Legal Team as we are looking for an experienced Privacy and AI Counsel with a love for data, technology, and cybersecurity to lead our global privacy efforts and work closely with Medallia’s product, engineering, and security teams. This role will continue to build out our privacy and related compliance efforts and work cross-functionally with our different teams across the globe and focus on Medallia’s privacy by design principles.

This position is remote and based in the US. 

Responsibilities
  • Research and track global privacy and AI legislation, evolving regulations, enforcement and advice internal business partners with a focus on actionable guidance
  • Provide strategic legal advice on Medallia's global privacy and AI program initiatives (including with respect to records of processing activities, PIAs and DPIAs, data subject requests, and privacy by design, etc.)
  • Provide guidance to legal and product management teams on issues pertaining to new and existing products/features throughout the entire development lifecycle
  • Draft and negotiate data protection and AI terms and review and update existing privacy templates and disclosures
  • Respond to communications from Medallia's customers and employees regarding their individual rights, and Medallia's processing of their personal data
  • Serve as a subject matter expert assisting in escalated commercial negotiations with key customers and partners
  • Develop training materials and providing training to employees on privacy and AI related obligations and further develop our privacy and data protection practices in the EU and globally
  • Collaborate with our cybersecurity specialists to manage incident investigation and response for legal, including data breach notification guidance and communication
  • Monitor changes in the law and enforcement trends to present to senior leadership and ensure that Medallia continues to meet and exceed industry requirements and best practices
  • Advise business teams on appropriate use of Generative AI, and lead creation of new internal policies for use of Generative AI technologies
  • Advise Product & Engineering teams on establishment of Generative AI processes to align to compliance with emerging regulatory environment, including EU AI Act
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • 7+ years of privacy related experience either gained at a law firm or in-house, or a combination of both
  • Demonstrated experience providing subject matter expertise in global privacy and data protection, including at a B2B SaaS company
  • Demonstrated experience providing proactive, pragmatic legal counseling to business partners
  • Demonstrated experience counseling clients on key issues and challenges in the use of Generative AI internally and in SaaS products
  • J.D. or LL.M.
  • Admitted to a state bar

  • Proven record of operational excellence and the ability to design efficiency enhancing processes
  • Extremely effective in working cross-functionally and building strong relationships with key business partners
  • Motivated by responsibility and autonomy to solve problemsHighest integrity, excellent judgment, and ability to work independently with a clear understanding of what and when to escalate
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in communicating with business partners
  • CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, AIGP


Medallia is committed to equal pay and transparency.  The annual base salary range for this position is $137,500 - $248,000. This position is bonus eligible. Please note that the salary range information provided is a general guideline and combines all of the distinct labor markets within the US.  It is uncommon for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors.  Medallia considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, candidate’s work location, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, external market data, as well as, market and business considerations when making compensation decisions.
