The Senior Legal Services Specialist is a member of the legal team within the UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement segment that provides support to the Medicare & Retirement Legal team and segment Business Leads.  This position will be one of three legal services support team members. Each team member has specific primary assignments, but some flexibility is required to shift work as needed to respond to priority projects, as appropriate.  Candidates should have solid analytical, problem solving, organizational skills and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and organize workload to meet multiple hard deadlines. Ability to work within a small team and a willingness to take on work from others are important qualities to being successful on this team as well.

 

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. In office in De Pere, WI or Minnetonka, MN preferred.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Federal/State Applications: Work closely with business teams to develop and support strategies for product expansions. Prepare applications for state licenses to offer health benefits and assist with legal components of applications to federal agency, CMS, to support the product expansions.  The role includes navigating/collaborating with internal business owners to gather required application components
  • Contracts/Agreements: Responsible for drafting, reviewing, and revising contracts and/or agreements – some examples include sales agent agreements, PBM agreement, non-disclosure agreements, etc. Also, requires working closely with the appropriate business client and assigned attorney
  • Material Review: Review materials for members, providers, agents, and/or pharmacies (letters, training materials, marketing pieces etc.). The primary focus of the review is to identify any legal risks or regulatory concerns
  • Project Coordination/Management: Ability to coordinate projects within our team and/or with other departments within the organization. The role includes organizing, managing communicating and tracking progress on assigned projects. Some projects may require working with external entities, including state regulatory bodies
  • Legal Research: Gather background information, research the law and/or regulations on specific issues or questions. Prepare and present a summary of the findings, including initial analysis, as requested, to the requesting attorney

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years working in legal or regulatory environment or supporting corporate attorneys
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to coordinate projects
  • Ability to deal with multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to work well with others, but manage an independent workload
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, ADOBE

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Self-starter and independent thinker who knows when to seek guidance
  • Experience working with contracts- contract review, drafting and negotiating skills
  • Experience in the healthcare industry, managed care industry, or a federal or state government health care programs
  • Demonstrated research skills with a variety of vehicles – intranet, internet, networking with business partners, etc.
  • Comfort with uncertainty, with ability to proactively navigate a complex and heavily matrixed organization to effect results
  • Experience working in a fast-paced matrix environment
  • Detail oriented – ability to review brochures, letters, contracts, training materials, etc. looking for legal issues, clarity of description, and misrepresentation of product
  • Excellent communication skills; written and verbal

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
