We are seeking an experienced attorney to support our global procurement function and compliance program. The ideal candidate will have a background in negotiating and drafting vendor technology and other transactions and developing a corporate compliance program, with a mix of law firm and in-house experience. This role will support 8x8’s global procurement function providing strategic counsel and oversight on in-bound licensing, out-sourced service partnerships and overall procurement related legal operations. In addition, this position will manage and oversee 8x8’s compliance program, ensuring alignment with U.S. Department of Justice guidelines and fostering a strong culture of integrity, compliance, and risk management throughout the company. This is a broad role tasked with supporting 8x8’s key business objectives, with title and salary commensurate with experience.  The role is remote to the 27 states in the US we are hiring in at 8x8.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Global Inbound Contracting: Structure and negotiate a wide variety of inbound relationships, including strategic IT and out-sourced service partnerships, technology licenses and other complex agreements, as well as counsel company executives and other internal stakeholders on contract-related matters.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a liaison and cross-functional partner with the company’s IT, procurement, accounting, engineering, and HR teams in supporting 8x8’s procurement of technology, software, services, and goods for its business, as well as in furtherance of 8x8’s compliance program.

  • Policy Development: Oversee the drafting and implementation of policies and internal guidelines related to procurement and compliance practices.

  • Risk Mitigation: Play a critical role in scaling 8x8’s inbound licensing to help 8x8 achieve its business objectives faster with minimal risk, as well as providing strategic advice to minimize potential liabilities.

  • Global Third-Party Risk Management and Compliance: Lead 8x8’s compliance program by developing and managing the company’s global third-party risk management program and compliance strategy.

  • Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal advice to internal teams (e.g., product, engineering, HR, and marketing) on procurement, contractual matters, and compliance.

  • Compliance Program Management: Develop, implement, and monitor 8x8’s compliance program in line with DOJ guidelines and industry standards, as well as collaborate with compliance, legal and security teams to implement and manage 8x8’s compliance program. 

  • Monitoring & Reporting: Stay informed about evolving global compliance regulations and industry best practices, and provide regular updates and reports to the leadership team on the company’s compliance program and initiatives.

 

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal degree from an accredited law school.

  • Active bar membership in good standing in at least one jurisdiction.

  • Minimum of 6-10 years of commercial transactions and/or compliance legal experience, including in a well-regarded law firm as well as in-house legal experience (preferably with a multi-national company in technology, SaaS, or a highly-regulated industry).

  • Prior in-house experience preferred.

  • Experience focused on strategic IT procurement and out-sourced services, with the ability to independently draft and negotiate routine inbound license and service agreements, as well as data processing addendums and business associate agreements.

  • Deep experience with procurement processes and legal operations, including CLM and third-party risk management tools.

  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to translate legal issues for non-legal stakeholders, as well as the understanding and ability to translate business needs into contract language (including creativity in finding solutions to help resolve business issues or blockers).

  • Familiarity with export regulations and other sanctions policies, as well as experience supporting a third-party risk management program and other governance, risk, and compliance requests. 

  • Experience developing and implementing corporate compliance programs in line with U.S. Department of Justice guidelines, as well as supporting Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) programs. 

  • Proven track record of collaborating across departments and managing cross-functional projects.

  • Ability to balance legal risks with business objectives in a pragmatic and solutions-oriented manner to strike the right balance between risk and reward.

The compensation range reflects the Company’s good faith belief at the time of posting. 8x8 has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets. The range above reflects the potential base pay across the U.S. for this role; the applicable base pay range will depend on what ultimately is determined to be the candidate’s primary work location. Further, individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience, knowledge, success, education and skills. Base pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including discretionary merit increases, bonus and/or stock. Certain roles have the opportunity to earn sales variable compensation incentives based on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.

 

Salary Ranges:

$138,750.00 - $256,250.00
