From airports to boardrooms, our Legal team provides advice and counsel on all aspects of the business, assessing legal risks and compliance, while our Ethics and Compliance team ensures that we run an ethically sound operation. Key Responsibilities:

This position works at the direction of the Manager - International Legal Affairs and assists in all aspects of international case management, research, and settlement of claims. Responsibilities include independently handling international small claims, cargo, and baggage lawsuits and complaints filed by international enforcement bodies, conducting detailed research to evaluate the merits of asserted claims, collecting and prioritizing documents responsive to litigation claims, settling claims without outside counsel assistance when possible, and working with outside counsel on more complex claims. The role also provides counsel to internal collaborators about whether compensation is owed as a result of canceled/delayed flights in compliance with international regulations. Additionally, the role supports all international legal team members on the company’s international legal matters and handles other duties as assigned.

  • Collect and organize documents responsive to litigation claims
  • Address and resolve lawsuits in various jurisdictions that pertain to various international laws and regulations such as EU261, APPR, IASL, and the Montreal Convention
  • Participate in settlement teleconferences without outside counsel assistance when possible and work with outside counsel on more complex claims
  • Regularly review and analyze flight cancellations and delays to determine whether compensation is owed in compliance with international regulations
  • Support all international legal team members on the company’s international legal matters and other duties as assigned
  • Regularly update our internal international matter management databases (iManage and Microsoft Teams) to ensure that all matter information is current, organized, and readily accessible for legal proceedings and other legal needs

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Certified Notary Public
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and matter management software (e.g., iManage)
  • 3+ years of prior in-house legal or law firm experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and an ability to multi-task in a demanding environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking, problem analysis, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability and desire to function both collaboratively and independently as part of the global team
  • Foreign language skills (Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese)
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
