In close coordination with Legal Counsel, this paralegal will apply advanced knowledge in trademark, copyright and patent law to support the legal department and businesses on a variety of intellectual property matters.
- Conduct preliminary trademark and common law clearance searches in Saegis, Corsearch or similar systems.
- Responsible for maintaining domestic and foreign IP portfolio for various in-house business units. Prepare, file, and oversee all documents for US and foreign trademark prosecution and trademark registration maintenance, Assist and provide direction as to trademark opposition and cancellation matters and liaise with foreign counsel in connection with foreign trademark portfolio.
- Assist outside counsel with TTAB filings, including coordinating legal holds processes, gathering responsive information and documents and preparation of filings.
- Coordinate legalization of foreign trademark documentation in-house and with outside resources
- Prepare detailed status reports for IP business units and global colleagues
- Conduct in-house training with in-house business units of trademark requirements and processes.
- Review and analyze trademark watching service reports including global filings and domain activity. Assist with domain name watching and investigation of potential domain name infringements and coordinating enforcement actions with outside resources.
- Assist in enforcement efforts, including investigating potential IP infringement issues and preparing cease and desist letters.
- Review and analyze due diligence documentation for in-house transactional matters, including preparation and recordation of Assignment documents
- Review of products, product packaging and marketing for compliance with intellectual property laws and brand guidelines.
- Assist the preparation and prosecution of intellectual filings including patent, trademark and copyright.
Job Responsibility:
- Assists in researching legal issues and administering law department activities. Investigates facts and applicable law and searches pertinent sources.
- Drafts routine legal documents and reports under direct attorney supervision. Supports attorneys in preparing agreements, instruments, documents and pleadings relating to litigation and non litigation matters.
- Organizes and maintains department databases and files on a variety of legal subjects.
- Works directly with attorney to resolve legal questions through the application of applicable law to pertinent facts.
- Updates legal resources. Keeps management and staff informed of changes.
