Lyft is looking for a bright, energetic, and self-motivated attorney with at least 5 years of employment litigation experience. You will assist with a wide variety of labor and employment matters that are core to the company’s business and growth, and you will work extensively across functions to help craft solutions to the novel legal challenges Lyft faces every day. The successful candidate will be entrepreneurial and comfortable working in an ambiguous, quickly-changing and fast-paced environment. You will report directly to the Director, Litigation & Employment. This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in person at Lyft’s San Francisco office.

Responsibilities:

Responsibility — meaning, hands-on work, not just supervising outside counsel — for a wide variety of litigation and pre-litigation matters in state and federal courts and administrative forums, including matters involving worker classification questionsAbility to manage high-volume portfolio that could encompass a variety of employment matters, including: court litigation; arbitration matters; unemployment claims; administrative audits; agency charges; and workers’ compensation claimsCollaborate closely with fellow Legal Team members and outside counsel to develop and carry out employment litigation strategy with an eye toward impact on Lyft’s broader business objectivesManage outside counsel, including tactical guidance, staffing, case management, budgeting, and alignment with Lyft’s broader legal strategyProactively approach all aspects of employment litigation, including pre-litigation, discovery, motion practice, witness preparation, and trial and appellate strategiesProvide assistance and support to Lyft’s Legal Team members, and work closely with other teams, such as Human Resources, Finance, Product, and Policy to provide cross-functional legal advice

Experience:

5+ years of experience practicing in-house or at a large or mid-size law firmJ.D. from a top-tier law schoolMember of the California or New York barPreference is given to candidates with prior in-house experience and/or experience advising gig economy clients as outside counselExperience litigating a wide variety of employment matters, including complex litigationExperience responding to unemployment claims, workers’ compensation claims, wage garnishment claims, and agency charges is a plus Excellent problem-solving capabilities, judgment, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skillsExperience providing labor advice and counselingAbility to operate autonomously while being a team player who brings a positive attitude to the workplaceComfortable operating in a fast-paced, rapidly-evolving workplaceAbility to think quickly on your feet, convey grace under pressure, and simultaneously manage complex workloads, multiple client demands, and shifting prioritiesBe a resourceful self-starter and have a passion for results. This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Thursdays and a team-specific third day. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year. #Hybrid

The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco area is $176,000 - $220,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
