We are looking for an exceptional and innovative IP Counsel to join MongoDB’s legal team. As a member of our growing Legal Product function, you will be responsible for directing our patent strategy and providing guidance and strategic insights on patent, trademark, and marketing legal issues for the company. You will partner with our teams to develop new technologies while managing legal and business risk. As we expand our developer data platform, your ideas and contributions will make an immediate impact.
The ideal candidate will have some experience in patent, copyright and trademark law, but also be eager to learn and master new areas of the law. To succeed in this position, you must be able to work independently and efficiently and enjoy meeting challenges head on. Responsibilities
Actively collaborate with a wide variety of MongoDB teams, including Product, Engineering and Marketing, on a range of issues related to IP, patents and brand protectionDevelop and advance our patent program and strategy, work with MongoDB’s R&D team to identify and develop opportunities for high-quality patent assets, and drive the application process up to filingWork strategically with outside counsel in the drafting and prosecution of patent filings, and to manage any patent litigationsAssist Product Counsel and Engineering in evaluating the impact of IP issues on our products and businessDevelop and implement policies and best practices for MongoDB’s marketing programs and initiatives, and partner with our Marketing team to review marketing collateral for trademark, advertising, and competition issues Assist with a variety of other intellectual property matters including trademark portfolio management, trade secret strategy, acquisition IP due diligence, and drafting and negotiating IP agreementsRemain up-to-date on relevant IP, open source, and advertising laws and regulations to provide an ongoing ability to offer sound compliance adviceSpearhead internal education initiatives and trainings related to patents, trademarks, licensing and marketing
Qualifications
Smart, creative, and driven, with great leadership and teamwork skills, and a willingness to take on new responsibility5 or more years of legal experience, including at a law firm or prior in-house experience with tech companies, particularly in the SaaS/cloud computing spaceKnowledge and understanding of software licensing and patent and trademark laws, rules and regulations in the U.S. and globallyExperience prosecuting patent applications and/or litigating patent matters, particularly in connection with cloud computing servicesExperience providing IP advice in connection with the development of new products and services, particularly in the technology/cloud computing spacesStrong business judgment and an ability to identify practical, risk-based solutions to issues and make decisions based on imperfect informationRelationship and people skills that enable you to get a diverse group of stakeholders moving in the same directionThrive working on a team in a fast-paced environment with priorities that frequently change and occasionally competeExcellent verbal and written communication as well as attention to detail Licensed in an appropriate jurisdiction

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role is posted below. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, access to transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings. MongoDB’s base salary range for this role in the U.S. is:
$140,000—$275,000 USD
