Citi Legal is seeking a mid-level attorney to join the Investigations Legal team. Investigations Legal supports Citi’s Banking, Markets, Services and Wealth businesses including corporate and investment banking, the commercial bank, the private bank, liquidity management and payments, trade finance, securities services, as well as Citi’s broker-dealer and swap-dealer businesses.
Investigations Legal provides legal advice on a broad range of regulatory and law enforcement inquiries and related investigations, sweeps, and enforcement proceedings, as well as litigation related to regulatory matters, initiated by federal and state regulators and agencies, criminal law enforcement authorities and other self-regulatory organizations including, for example, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the U.S. Commodity Futures Trade Commission (CFTC), and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). Investigations Legal also handles internal investigations, particularly in connection with ethics complaints, whistleblower escalations, and potential violations of Citi’s internal policies and procedures. Finally, Investigations Legal provides pre-investigation and enforcement advice to business and control function stakeholders and other Citi Legal attorneys. Investigations Legal may also provide advice on remediation and control enhancements.
Attorneys in Investigations Legal work closely with colleagues in Product Litigation – Banking, Markets, Services and Wealth, as well as lawyers from around the globe on cross-border and cross-affiliate regulatory enforcement matters and internal investigations that require international coordination. The role requires collaborative work habits, acting in the interest of a common cause, and being a true team player.
This role requires a pragmatic, self-motivated attorney with an understanding of the legal issues arising in internal investigations and regulatory enforcement matters. This role provides input into strategic decisions, exercising sound legal judgment to develop proactive, risk-appropriate, and commercially business-oriented solutions. This role is not a manager.
