Description

ScionHealth is recruiting for a Director and Counsel, Operations to join our corporate legal team. Our office is located at the corporate headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky with a secondary support center office in Brentwood, Tennessee. Therefore, we prefer candidates in those markets. Other worksites and hybrid work arrangements are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Summary:

Provides legal counsel and advice on operational and regulatory matters impacting provider operations across ScionHealth, a large for-profit health care provider company with Community Hospitals (Short-Term Acute Care Hospitals) and Specialty Hospitals (Long-Term Acute Care Hospitals) in 25 states. Position supports and will report to ScionHealth’s lead operations counsel for the Specialty Hospital Division.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide legal services and advice relating to the day-to-day operations of hospitals, surgery centers, hospital employed physicians, and other operating divisions.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review contracts typical for the health care provider sector.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis and maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal health care laws.
  • Collaborate closely with the Compliance Department to track and handle Compliance-related investigations and other matters.
  • Assist in the development of processes, templates, and training materials, utilizing available technologies to improve and promote efficiency, consistency, and compliance with regulatory and business requirements.
  • Participate as needed in acquisition or divestiture transactions, including onboarding of new acquisitions, and compiling due diligence materials for divestitures.
  • Supervise and direct outside counsel engaged on behalf of ScionHealth and/or its affiliates; manage outside counsel spend in accordance with the Legal Department budget.
  • Regular and reliable attendance; Perform other duties as assigned; Approximate percent of time required to travel: Up to 30%.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate degree

Licenses/Certification:

  • Admission to a State Bar, admission in Kentucky may be required upon hire.

Experience:

  • Two (2) plus years legal experience, including experience providing legal services in the health care industry; must demonstrate an understanding of basic health care operational, regulatory, and fraud and abuse issues.
