Description

Ameriprise Financial Services, LLC is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced licensed attorney. This high visibility legal position will provide effective solutions-oriented legal and regulatory advice globally to senior management in Technology and our various businesses on data protection, cybersecurity, cyber resilience, artificial intelligence, digital client engagement and other technology related issues. This position will become an integral part of a GCO practice group that supports Regulatory Affairs, Investigations, Litigation, Technology and Privacy.

Key Responsibilities

Provide effective solutions-oriented legal and regulatory advice globally to senior management in Technology and our various businesses on cybersecurity, cyber resilience, data protection, information security, artificial intelligence, digital client engagement and other technology related issues.

  • Partner with Government Affairs team to strategically advocate on proposed legislation and regulation.

  • Serve on relevant industry organization legal committees covering cybersecurity, operational resilience and technology.

  • Advise on legal aspects of and partner to implement business strategies that involve data use.

  • Partner with Technology and across our businesses on cyber and other technology-related event responses.

  • Partner across the General Counsel’s Organization (GCO) with subject matter experts in other disciplines, like privacy, vendor contracts and mergers & acquisitions, on cyber and technology related legal issues.

  • Understand business needs and goals in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment, working with urgency toward effective, practical, and timely legal solutions.

  • Provide oversight to the global privacy legal team, which has responsibility for advising on, and partnering with the business and Technology to implement, privacy legislation and regulation globally, with a particular emphasis in the US and EMEA. The Privacy legal team plays a critical role partnering with the business on important growth initiatives with privacy implications, and partners closely with the Privacy compliance team on evaluating and responding to potential privacy incidents.

  • Actively support the GCO’s value proposition and culture of engagement.

Required Qualifications

  • JD with extensive experience and expertise in technology-related practice, preferably in the financial services sector.

  • 5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney.

  • Ability to influence, gain credibility and develop strong working relationships across GCO and with business partners and external constituencies.

  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory and industry trends involving cybersecurity, cyber resilience, data protection, information security, artificial intelligence and other technology-related topics.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, with ability to translate technology-oriented topics and concepts for general consumption.

  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with ability to identify and rank legal risks arising from different business plans and approaches.

  • Proven leadership and change management skills.

  • Admitted to practice law in the state of Minnesota, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina or eligible for admission as in-house counsel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Participation/experience on industry committees (such as SIFMA, NASAA, FINRA or others).

Base Pay Salary

New York Residents Only: The estimated base salary for this role is $165,800 - $223,800 / year. Base salaries are determined in part based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
