Job Description

As the Chief Prosecutor in the Office of General Counsel you will serve as a special assistant attorney general for prosecution of the Department's criminal fraud matters. The attorney, with minimal oversight by the Chief Legal Counsel, shall evaluate matters referred for prosecution, guide and assist with investigations to develop cases for indictment, properly advance the case through the judicial system, seek just resolution, and manage their caseload to include providing relevant updates to the Chief Legal Counsel. These prosecutions range from single perpetrator fraud to complex schemes involving many defendants to defraud the State of South Carolina and its taxpayers. May handle other matters as assigned by the Chief Legal Counsel. Some travel may be required.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A Juris Doctor Degree with at least three (3) years of practicing experience, preferably in a Solicitor's office or equivalent Criminal Prosecution/Defense experience. Must be a member and in good standing with the South Carolina Bar. Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Organized and able to work independently with minimal supervision; Possess excellent written and oral advocacy skills; Possess significant experience the Court of General Sessions.
