Job description

Position Summary:

Serves as a strategic legal partner to Stryker’s global Procurement and Supplier Quality teams including support of the New Product Introduction (NPI) sourcing teams across multiple divisions.   The position reports to Senior Director, GQO Counsel within the GQO Legal team. Under minimal supervision, works with Stryker’s procurement professionals across the globe on a broad range of commercial contracting matters including master service, supply, and related agreements. Partners with department colleagues from business and functional areas on a broad range of matters, including legal and compliance issues and the interpretation of laws, regulations, and Stryker policies related to the procurement of goods and services.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Drafts and negotiates contracts as well as proactively handles various transactional matters related to all areas of procurement (including service and agreements, statements of work, non-disclosure agreements, contract amendments), and supervises formal contract handling procedures, with a particular focus on new product commercialization with in the New Product Introductions (NPI) sourcing team;
  • Acts as a legal business partner to Stryker’s sourcing and buying personnel across the globe, including leadership teams, and Divisional Operation Team (DOT) representation, to execute Stryker’s procurement strategies;
  • Delivers accurate information and performs legal research regarding laws and regulations;
  • Responsible for a large number of issues, prioritizing, and delivering timely results;
  • Responsible for providing legal advice and making decisions related to legal matters that could have a large financial impact on the company including areas involving compliance with laws, contracting, litigation, intellectual property, and supplier relationships among others;
  • Collaborates and communicates with colleagues, management, and outside counsel; and
  • Assists with other matters in accordance with needs and priorities of the department.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Requires a thorough understanding of all areas of the procurement business including impact of other functions (regulatory, manufacturing, operations, intellectual property, sales)
  • Minimum 5-7 years applicable professional experience; prior professional experience considered
  • Must have a legal law license, experience in negotiating commercial terms around intellectual property preferred
  • Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage and prioritize numerous projects and conflicting demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates good judgment and professional demeanor, and a sound ethical compass       
  • Embraces and supports change in a dynamic environment   
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with colleagues in a global organization
  • Able to work independently and in a team with discipline to proactively follow-up on matters   
  • Possesses good analytical and drafting skills           
  • Possesses good communication skills and ability to convey legal principles clearly and concisely
