Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products, making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. We’re doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.

Associate General Counsel, Commercial 

Redwood Materials is seeking a talented attorney for our Associate General Counsel, Commercial position. This position will report to the General Counsel and will be a key part of the legal team, having the ability to influence and work on exciting legal issues. You will collaborate with cross functional partners to ensure operational excellence and move strategic plans through to completion. 

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Drafting and negotiating complex agreements, including recycling, feedstock sourcing and sales, construction, operations, and real estate contracts. 
  • Providing legal counseling in areas such as recycling, construction, engineering and procurement, real estate, permitting, and materials and equipment sourcing contracts. 
  • Leading and supporting acquisitions and leases of real estate and negotiating ancillary agreements such as rights of way, easements, agreements for the purchase of energy, water and other utilities and infrastructure contracts. 
  • Assisting the business with legal and compliance due diligence of potential real estate, operational and other assets and services. 
  • Serving as lead counsel to Redwood’s business development and sales teams and advising business clients on strategic transactions. 
  • Resolving issues that arise in existing commercial relationships and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries. 
  • Working with internal teams and outside counsel on strategic transactions and special projects. 

Desired Qualifications  

  • JD degree and membership in at least one state bar is required. 
  • 12+ years of experience practicing law, in-house experience preferred. 
  • US and Global transaction experience. 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at once. 
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills. 
  • A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place! 

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
