About the Role:

This position is responsible for initiating foreign and national phase filings with foreign counsel, including providing all formal documents to meet deadlines; add all foreign annuities to provider’s account and keep annuity docket up to date. This position is responsible for and will enter formal documents, information, activity, and deadlines in they system while following standard organizational procedures; reviews documents and office correspondence to determine deadlines using applicable rules and calendaring software; communicates and coordinates with teams to review and confirm deadlines and instructions; assists with review of electronic databases and provides basic filing and service information; generates calendar reports and queries for teams based upon standard procedures as requested.

Your Contributions (include, but not limited to):

  • Instructs foreign counsel regarding direct and national phase filings

  • Prepares all formal documents and obtains signatures of applicants and inventors

  • Obtains all certified documents from USPTO and obtains any necessary legalizations

  • Adds all US and foreign annuities to provider’s account

  • Provide back-up docketing support

  • Prepares all formal documents required for filing patent applications and patent prosecution with the USPTO and WIPO

  • Manages foreign counsel to prepare all formal documents required for filing patent applications and patent prosecution with the national and regional patent offices globally

  • Manages Neurocrine’s patent and trademark dockets and patent annuities outside service

  • Develops best practices and internal SOPs for ensuring a high functioning IP Department

  • Manages the use of outside legal counsel and internal resources, as may be necessary, to fulfill the aforementioned responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • BS/BA degree and 8+ years of relevant experience OR

  • Master’s degree and 6+ years of related experience

  • Exceptional communication skills, including presentation, interpersonal, and writing.

  • Ability to independently oversee administrative intellectual property matters, manage the use of support staff at outside law firms and work collaboratively with other personnel at Neurocrine

  • Ability to set aggressive deadlines, handle multiple complex matters and see projects through to conclusion

  • A combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred

  • Experience working on life sciences matters helpful, but not required

  • Experience as a US patent secretary, foreign filing specialist, intellectual property legal assistant, docket clerk, and/or patent administrator, with significant experience in multiple of the aforementioned roles

  • Patent docketing experience with one of the common docketing software programs, preferably PATTSY

  • Has knowledge of best practices in the functional discipline and familiarity with the broader underlying concepts of related business disciplines

  • Works to improve tools and processes within functional area

  • Developing reputation inside the company as it relates to area of expertise

  • Ability to work as part of and lead multiple teams

  • Exhibits leadership skill and ability, typically leads lower levels and/or indirect teams

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Excellent communications, problem-solving, analytical thinking skills

  • Sees broader picture, impact on multiple departments/divisions

  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines across a variety of projects/programs, with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency

  • Excellent project management skills

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $127,500.00-$184,800.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 30% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
