Job Description

The role will report to a Senior Managing Counsel, Commercial and Money Movement Solutions (CMS) Legal, based in Miami, FL, Foster City, CA,, San Francisco, CA, Atlanta, GA, Denver, CO, or Ashburn, VA. You will be responsible for:

  • Providing legal advice and support to the CMS business across a wide range of complex commercial matters and projects, including Visa Direct for Card, Account and Wallet, Visa+, Alias Directory and other CMS products and services, working with colleagues in offices across the world to support the day-to-day legal needs of our internal clients.
  • Navigating the complex landscape of money movement regulations, working closely with other experienced attorneys across regions and practice areas.
  • Engaging and managing external counsel on a range of issues, interrogating legal analyses and translating advice into clear and actionable guidance for our business teams.
  • Contributing to Visa’s thought leadership in money movement and helping develop new products and services to build the future of money movement.
  • Understanding Visa’s strategy, recognizing the connections between matters and working pro-actively to ensure these are given appropriate attention for the benefit of the Visa group and its overall management of legal risk.
  • Managing day-to-day legal queries and taking the lead on all relevant legal activities.
  • Training business areas on law, processes and policies.
  • Developing, managing and maintaining relationships to facilitate the effective delivery of legal support, liaising with other Visa departments across the globe to ensure full alignment with business needs and policies.
  • Proactively contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Legal, Ethics & Compliance division as a whole.

_This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD
  • Admitted to practice law in the United States and in good standing.
  • Fluent English speaker
  • Strong academic credentials

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
  • Experience of commercial law and regulations in a multi-jurisdictional environment.
  • Good understanding of working in-house within a large technology organization.
  • Enthusiasm to become an expert adviser within the payments industry.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 201,500.00 to 262,000.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
