The Associate General Counsel role will establish an Office of Professional Practice within the Legal Department to provide professional tax practice and compliance support for Ryan's operations.

Duties and Responsibilities aligned with Key Results: People, Client, Values
Develop and implement Firm policy relating to the tax practice.
Issue timely information to tax professionals on new Firm policies or changes in Firm policy and procedure, including return preparation, disclosure, listing requirements, material advisor requirements, etc.
Coordinate Firm compliance with Internal Revenue Service and other regulatory and professional requirements regarding the tax practice.
Act as liaison with Tax Operations and with other Firm-wide support functions (e.g., Legal and Compliance).
Review new tax services (in collaboration with practice and procedure teams) from a professional practice and risk management perspective, including Firm opinion letters.
Assist in the identification, review, and resolution of conflicts and assist with approval of new tax clients and engagements.
Evaluate and approve requests to modify Standard Terms and Conditions on engagement letters to ensure in compliance with Circular 230 and other regulatory or state requirements.
Develop and conduct Firm-wide tax risk management and professional practice training, including preparer penalties, signing of returns, tax shelter requirements, etc..
Assist with annual interoffice and intraoffice tax quality performance or compliance programs.
Assist with other professional practice issues as necessary.
Education/Experience:
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school required, with at least 10 years combined tax experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, large financial advisory firm, or the Internal Revenue Service. Federal and State Tax experience required; tax generalist experienced in case resolution, driving revenue, enterprise risk management, and thought leadership.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.
Work Environment:
Standard office or home office work environment.
Position requires regular interaction with coworkers and clients both in person and via e-mail and telephone.
Independent travel requirement: Less than 15%.
