Job Description:
BlackBerry seeks a creative, self-driven patent attorney for its Intellectual Property and Licensing operations. You will be primarily responsible for patent prosecution but will also contribute to licensing support, litigation support, infringement analysis, and portfolio management.
Responsibilities:
Work with BlackBerry engineering teams to create high quality invention disclosures.Work with BlackBerry outside counsel to draft and prosecute patent applications.Identify potential licensees of BlackBerry patents.Assess BlackBerry’s patent portfolio in terms of various quality metrics.Develop detailed claim charts.Present claim charts to potential licensees.Discuss technical and legal issues related to BlackBerry’s patents with potential licensees.Approximately 5%-10% domestic/international travel may be required.
Key Qualifications:
Licensed patent attorney, registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Telecommunication or other related fields.5+ years of relevant experience with patent prosecution and/or patent licensing.Experience and understanding of patent and portfolio valuation.Experience in licensing negotiations and responding to arguments.Broad technical knowledge, industry insight and commercial awareness of the Internet of Things, cyber-security, cryptography, automotive systems, enterprise mobility management, operating systems and applications.Exceptional presentation skills, concise and fluent in communication.Ability to distill complexity via a methodical and structured approach.Team player, self-disciplined, and ability to work cooperatively with others.Exemplary ethical standards.
