The Operations and Technology law group at Citi is seeking a talented corporate counsel to join our Americas legal team in a new role primarily supporting LATAM countries. The Lead Counsel 1 / Senior Vice President will work directly with Citi legal and business teams to draft, negotiate and advise on enterprise agreements with an impact on countries within LATAM and ensure global alignment of risk controls and key contract terms.
The role will work with business and function colleagues (Legal, Risk, Compliance, Finance, HR and Enterprise Operations & Technology) across Citi, primarily in support of activities in the LATAM region, providing a broad range of commercial contracting legal support for Citi business areas, including HR; Advertising & Marketing; Facilities; Travel; Technology, Hardware and Software, SaaS; and Professional Services.
Key responsibilities:
The Lead Counsel 1 will liaise with legal and business peers globally to provide a broad range of commercial legal support for operational and corporate services issues, negotiating and drafting a range of general commercial contracts, including technology agreements, outsourcings, other services arrangements and other commercial contracts. This attorney will be instrumental in adapting Citi’s global model to specific and varied local legal, regulatory and business requirements within the LATAM region, and with the revision of current, and development of new, procedures, precedents, templates and related ways of enhancing the provision of legal support for the LATAM region. This role will support multiple aspects of the business, providing day-to-day legal input on business initiatives and strategy, serving as primary legal support on a variety of agreements, bringing together input on local legal considerations, and ensuring regulatory compliance, as well as creating and delivering legal training and reference guides for the business and legal peers. This senior level attorney will lead collaboration across internal lines of business and control/support functions to achieve coordinated and efficient outcomes on matters related to Technology Transactions and the purchase of goods and services for the Bank’s internal operations, with a focus on LATAM; coordinate closely with legal peers aligned to associated businesses and in-country counsel; lead planning and development initiatives to align LATAM legal work with processes and controls adopted in ROW.
7-12 years of proven general commercial transactional experience. Experience working with multi-national companies a plus.Strong drafting and negotiating skills in English and Spanish. Additional languages a plus. Prior experience supporting one or more LATAM territories is desirable.Demonstrated ability to engage and complete transactions quickly and effectively, with minimal supervision. Member of Florida bar or ability to become authorized in house counsel within 6 months of joining. A dual qualification will be regarded favorably.Strong work ethic, superior organizational skills, and ability to work well independently and as a collaborative team member. Experience in the financial services industry a plus.
Role can be based in Tampa or Miami (hybrid with 2 (Tampa) or 3 (Miami) days in office).
