POSITION SUMMARY:

Exciting opportunity to join the legal department of a fast-growing, publicly traded retail company. We are seeking a highly skilled attorney with 7+ years of experience in labor and employment law. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with business teams to address legal claims, provide strategic advice on employment law matters, and drive the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training programs. Reporting to the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, this role requires a proactive, self-motivated professional capable of independently managing day-to-day employment law issues with minimal supervision."

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide guidance and advice in the context of employment-related laws and regulations, including practices relative to hiring, performance management, discipline, terminations, internal investigations, leave and disability issues, wage and hour compliance, and general employee risk management
  • Identify legal compliance issues impacting employees and assist in developing strategic plans for all employment-related matters, including but not limited to, policies, procedures, litigation, and pre-litigation matters
  • In partnership with Human Resources, develop and implement new employment-related processes, policies and training, based on legal and regulatory requirements, industry standards and best practices
  • Lead compliance initiatives and strategies with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Develop and execute on trainings related to employment laws
  • Lead and manage responses to federal and state audits, ensuring compliance and accuracy throughout the process
  • Manage defense of the company in the context of attorney demand letters, administrative charges and other potential disputes against the company through negotiation or mediation
  • Where necessary, engage, direct, and supervise outside counsel in the context of employment related litigation
  • Review, draft, and/or negotiate employment-related agreements, including employment agreements, severance and termination agreements, confidentiality agreements and non-compete / non-solicitation agreements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • J.D. degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school. Admitted and member in good standing with the PA Bar (or ability to waive in to become a member).
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant legal experience (in-house experience a plus).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Well-developed analytical and critical thinking skills; high attention to detail.
  • Excellent judgment and the highest level of personal integrity.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and to manage resources in a cost-effective manner.
  • Creative problem solver able to deliver clear, strategic advice to clients in a timely manner.
  • Able to balance multiple projects while remaining highly organized.
  • Proficient with technology, including with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other systems.
  • Able to maintain flexibility and readiness to take on other duties as assigned.
  • Outstanding references.
