We are seeking qualified candidates for the Senior Counsel, Litigation & Regulatory Affairs at our Corporate facility located in Glen Allen, VA. This position will oversee litigation, legal staff, and compliance with regulations, manage insurance programs, and provide strategic advice to senior leadership on product safety, emerging laws, and industry trends while collaborating with external stakeholders and supporting internal investigations and consumer inquiries. This position is hybrid, on-site 3 days per week.
Responsibilities Of The Position Include
- Handle litigation and oversee legal staff representing the organization in legal proceedings and litigation before courts, government agencies, or other authorities. Support the business in internal investigations in collaboration with other teams across the enterprise.
- Defend against insurance subrogation and first-party litigation/claims, including personal injury, product liability, property damage, alleged noncompliance with state consumer laws, and commercial matters.
- Oversee compliance with consumer safety regulations, including those promulgated by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Health Canada, PROFECO, and similar governmental authorities.
- Collaborate with and support business units on regulatory examinations, investigations, formal responses (e.g., 15(b) Full Reports), and corrective actions (e.g., recalls). Manage state attorney general inquiries, Better Business Bureau complaints, escalated consumer complaints, and product inquiries from major retailers.
- Develop strategy, manage and provide advice to senior leadership and the business on litigation and emerging laws, regulations and industry trends related to product safety.
- Engage with key external collaborators, including counterparts at other companies in the industry, key government agencies, trade associations, and outside policy and counsel network to ensure HBB’s legal policy interests are aligned and advanced.
- Oversee and manage insurance programs for the business, including but not limited to commercial general liability, marine cargo, property, executive risk/financial professional coverage, and D&O insurance.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor and minimum of 8 years of relevant experience at a major law firm or in-house position.
- Excellent judgment, communication, and relationship management skills, with a strong commitment to professionalism and integrity.
- Product liability and complex commercial litigation experience.
- Experience conducting internal investigations and representing consumer product manufacturers and distributors in regulatory enforcement matters.
- Flexibility and willingness to work on a variety issues, disputes and risk management matters.
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently without extensive supervision.
- Hard-working team player with a can do attitude.
