Requirements The Director, Regulatory Compliance will report to the Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer, and will be responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating regulatory compliance initiatives to ensure continuous compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include assessing Sysco’s compliance with industry regulations, both external and internal, developing regulatory compliance programs and strategy, training employees, developing policies, and providing guidance to cross-functional teams on regulatory strategy and regulatory requirements.

Our Global Support Center/ Corporate Office is located in the Energy Corridor- off I10 and N Eldridge.

Hybrid Role: In-office Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Work from home on Thursday and Friday.

Summary:

The Director, Regulatory Compliance will report to the Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer, and will be responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating regulatory compliance initiatives to ensure continuous compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include assessing Sysco’s compliance with industry regulations, both external and internal, developing regulatory compliance programs and strategy, training employees, developing policies, and providing guidance to cross-functional teams on regulatory strategy and regulatory requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitors operations in all departments/functions to ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and organizational regulations and policies in areas including but not limited to food safety, environmental, transportation, and packaging.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive continual process and quality improvement. 

  • Recommends business practice changes to improve compliance with regulations and business goals.

  • Responds to regulatory inquiries and interacts with regulatory agencies as necessary.

  • Ensures that corrections in the areas of non-compliance are made timely and accurately.

  • In coordination with the appropriate business teams, reviews proposed process changes (including system requirements) to ensure they are in compliance with federal, state/provincial, and corporate regulatory requirements in the areas of food safety, environmental, transportation, and packaging.

  • Immediately reports areas of concern to the Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and develops correction action plans and appropriate training requirements.

  • Utilizing both internal and external resources, directs the development and maintenance of regulatory policies to be used in the influencing of regulation development and the internal compliance with federal and state regulations.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Abilities and Skills:

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, including written, verbal, and visual communication.

  • Capability to think creatively and develop alternative solutions to complex problems.

  • Solid project management skills to handle multiple projects and manage timelines with urgency.

Required Minimum Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in regulatory compliance or audit-related roles.

  • Experience working in a large, complex, multi-national company is preferred.

  • Experience in regulatory submissions and interactions with regulatory agencies.

  • Participating in cross-functional project teams and serving as a global regulatory advisor.

  • Experience working with food safety, packaging, environmental, or transportation regulatory compliance preferred.

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree required; J.D. preferred but not mandatory.

Work Environment:

  • This position may be performed from the Sysco Global Support Center facility based in Houston, Texas or remotely.

  • Travel may be required up to 20% to Sysco facilities or operating companies.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
