Who we are looking for:

The Corporate Counsel, Labor and Employment is essential in navigating a complex global employment landscape and will provide legal guidance on a broad range of employment matters. This role will support the Company’s business teams through its expertise in employment law, employee relations, and litigation strategy in order to provide proactive legal support to the various business and management teams. The Corporate Counsel, Labor and Employment partners closely with the People & Culture team to ensure employment practices align with legal requirements and promotes best practices. The ideal candidate will provide expert legal advice on a wide range of global employment-related matters, ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations while fostering a positive workplace environment. This role requires a strong understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with People & Culture and management to develop policies, manage disputes, and ensure compliance with legal standards.


What you will do:

  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Provide legal counsel on labor and employment issues, including but not limited to, discrimination, harassment, benefits, performance, wage and hour laws, and employee classification.
  • Support business strategic initiatives and projects, including U.S. and global policy development.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the company’s industry, business interests, and global and U.S. operations.
  • Partner with U.S. and global leaders, subject matter experts, and legal and business colleagues to identify business and legal risks and create proactive strategies for risk avoidance and mitigation as it relates to employment matters.
  • Identify creative ways to increase efficiencies and support internal business clients across domestic and international jurisdictions and time zones, achieving business objectives while maintaining legal compliance.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and review of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws. Draft, review, and update company policies and employee handbooks to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Draft and review employment-related agreements, templates, and forms.
  • Advise on complex/sensitive employee relations matters, including performance management, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Handle employee immigration matters.
  • Conduct training sessions for People & Culture and management on labor law compliance and best practices.
  • Research relevant labor, employment, and compliance topics, and stay up-to-date on changes in employment law and advise the organization on necessary adjustments to policies and practices.
  • Support merger and acquisition activities, including due diligence related to employment matters as well as post-acquisition integration efforts.
  • Conduct internal investigations related to employee complaints, ensuring a thorough and impartial process.
  • Partner with People & Culture to maintain and administer the Company’s internal compliance hotline and case management system, including triaging, investigating, and reporting to stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

What you will need:

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • JD from an accredited law school and admission into a state bar, with ability to obtain NY in-house counsel certification
  • 5+ years’ handling employment and labor issues in a law firm and in-house environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in employment counseling with a strong understanding of federal, state, and local employment and labor laws, especially as applicable to non-exempt workforces.
  • Prior experience in both a law firm and in-house setting strongly preferred.
  • Strategic and creative thinker, oriented toward practical solutions and proactive process improvements.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with teammates across the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Robust interpersonal, public speaking, and writing skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complicated topics and issues concisely and tailored to audiences at various levels of the Company.

Compensation : $150,000.00 - $190,000.00 annually. Please note that final compensation will be determined based upon the applicant's relevant experience, skillset, location, business needs, market demands, and other factors as permitted by law.

Employees (and their families) are covered by medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance, are able to enroll in ACV’s 401k plan, and will receive 6 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, paid sick days in accordance with Washington Paid Sick Leave Law, and uncapped vacation days per year in accordance with ACV's vacation policy.
