At Commure + Athelas, we are seeking a talented and dynamic Senior Deals and Product Counsel to join our legal team. You will play a crucial role in supporting our rapidly scaling clinical sales team in scoping, negotiating, and closing deals. Working with cutting-edge AI-first healthtech products—including Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), Scribe AI, and Electronic Health Records (EHRs)—built by top engineers and deployed across the country, you will engage deeply with our products and help drive our growth.
Our ideal candidate comes from a dealmaking background, is comfortable partnering with sales, making decisions, and understanding base financials. You will negotiate with large provider practices, Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), and other partners to expand our market presence.
What You'll Do
Lead Complex Deal Negotiations: Take ownership of negotiating and closing high-value contracts with large provider practices, GPOs, and strategic partners, ensuring terms are favorable and align with company objectives.Collaborate with Sales Teams: Partner closely with the clinical sales team to understand client needs, tailor agreements accordingly, and facilitate smooth deal closures.Deep Product Involvement: Work intimately with our AI-first healthtech products to fully understand their capabilities, risks, and legal implications, ensuring accurate representation in contracts.Financial Analysis: Interpret and analyze base financials to assess the impact of contractual terms on company revenue and profitability.Strategic Partnership Development: Identify opportunities for partnerships that enhance our product offerings and market reach, leading the legal efforts in these initiatives.Regulatory Compliance Assurance: Ensure all deals comply with relevant healthcare laws, data privacy regulations (including HIPAA), and industry standards.Risk Management: Proactively identify potential legal risks in deals and provide strategic solutions to mitigate them.Policy and Procedure Enhancement: Develop and refine internal policies and templates to streamline the contracting process and reduce negotiation cycles.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work seamlessly with product, engineering, finance, and marketing teams to align legal strategies with business goals.Training and Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior team members and sales staff on legal best practices and compliance matters.
What You Have
Educational Credentials: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.Legal Authorization: Admitted to practice law in a U.S. state or eligible to obtain such admission.Professional Experience: Minimum of 4+ years in a dealmaking legal role within the technology or healthcare industry, with a strong focus on commercial transactions.Deal Negotiation Expertise: Proven success in negotiating and closing complex deals with large healthcare providers, GPOs, and technology partners.Financial Literacy: Solid understanding of financial statements and the ability to analyze the financial implications of legal agreements.Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with AI technologies, healthtech solutions like RCM, Scribe AI, and EHR systems.Sales Partnership Skills: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with sales teams, providing legal guidance that supports business objectives.Strategic Mindset: Capacity to align legal strategies with overall business goals, contributing to growth and competitive advantage.Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of healthcare regulations, data privacy laws, intellectual property rights, and compliance requirements.Exceptional Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adept at conveying complex legal concepts to diverse audiences.Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical skills with a proactive approach to identifying issues and developing effective solutions.Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Collaborative Approach: Team-oriented mindset with experience working in cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.Decision-Making Confidence: Comfortable making informed decisions independently while considering legal and business implications.
