Acxiom’s US Legal Leader leads a team of attorneys who are responsible for developing, reviewing and negotiating client, vendor and partner contracts. This role requires a strategic thinker with exceptional negotiation skills, a deep understanding of contract law, and a track record of effectively managing legal teams. Acxiom’s industry is uniquely impacted by changes and development in privacy law; therefore, the, US Legal Leader is expected to work closely with Acxiom’s privacy team to understand state, federal, and international privacy rules and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, FCRA, CCPA, the EU AI Act and GDPR), and their impact on Acxiom’s contractual relationships. This is a player/coach role in that the US Legal Leader will be responsible for hiring, developing, and evaluating members of the team, and will also work as a senior attorney.
What you will do:
Client Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations with clients to draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts. Contract Strategy Development: Develop and implement strategies for client contract negotiations that align with Acxiom's business objectives while minimizing legal risks and maximizing profitability. Risk Assessment: Conduct thorough risk assessments of proposed contract terms and conditions, identifying potential legal and business risks and proposing solutions to mitigate those risks. Contract Compliance: Ensure compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards in all client contracts, including data privacy and security regulations. Dispute Resolution: Resolve disputes between Acxiom and clients, vendors, and partners up to and including litigation management. Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of legal professionals responsible for client contract negotiations and administration, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement. Cross Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal stakeholders across various departments and affiliates, including sales, finance, and operations, to ensure alignment on contract terms and to support business objectives. Acxiom Leadership: Serve as a senior leader on Acxiom’s Global Legal/Privacy team and advisor to senior leaders across Acxiom’s business units. Intellectual Property Management: Oversee the administration and protection of and maintain expertise in Acxiom’s intellectual property, including patent and trademark program management.
What you will need:
Juris Doctor (JD)6+ years’ experience practicing law, with a focus on client contract negotiations in a corporate legal department. U.S. license in good standing to practice law. Proven track record of successfully negotiating complex client contracts and agreements. Strong understanding of contract law principles and ability to apply legal concepts in a business context. Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strategic thinking with the ability to analyze complex legal and business issues and develop creative solutions. Tenacity for getting things accomplished, with the appropriate level and sense of urgency. Strong understanding of and comfort with technology. Comfort with ambiguity and independence.
What will set you apart:
Prior experience as corporate counsel working on commercial contracts, particularly in technology vendor & AdTech/MarTech partner areas. Experience advising on collection and use of highly regulated data such as consumer reports. Experience in government relations and PR crisis management. Experience leading complex, “bet the company” type litigation and managing regulatory investigations and enforcement actions. Experience leading and managing legal teams, with a focus on fostering professional development and team collaboration.
