Main Purpose of the Role:
Primary Director of the Insurance and Claims Team. Provides legal advice and support for ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd.’s subsidiary companies in the Americas, Canada, and the Caribbean Area.
Major areas of responsibility:
Provides advice and support on all legal matters affecting ZIM Integrated companies, including maritime law, corporate governance, contracts, regulatory compliance, claims and litigation matters.
Main Tasks:
Provide legal advice and support on U.S. law and regulation to ZIM Integrated and ZIM entities within the Area.Assist General Counsel and Vice President with compliance functions, including training, enforcement, and internal investigations.Conduct research and draft legal memoranda.Directly responsible for the insurance team which includes claims analysts and unclaimed Cargo analyst.Review and adjust complex cargo, property, and personal injury claims within Area.Provide in-house support for outside counsel in litigation of claims.Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts with external parties, coordinating with Headquarters, ZAISCO and outside parties.

Requirements:
Academic education: Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school (or other common law – based equivalent).Licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction and eligible for Corporate Counsel admission in the Commonwealth of Virginia.Equivalent foreign degree and licensing may be accepted.Minimum 5 years in maritime law & claims experience in shipping or freight forwarding companies.Minimum 2 years managerial experience within the transportation industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience.At-sea, terminal operations, or related transportation experience is a plus.
