Government Investigations and Commercial Litigation Attorney

This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic in-house litigation team responsible for government investigation and healthcare/commercial litigation.  This is a next-level development step for an experienced litigator – to apply their skills to support The Cigna Group in government investigations and as well as complex healthcare/commercial litigation matters.

This Associate Senior Counsel position is an individual contributor role and reports to the Senior Managing Counsel, Litigation, located in St. Louis, Missouri.

As a member of the Litigation team, an ideal candidate will be expected to:

  • Independently develop, lead, and execute all facets of litigation management and strategy for their portfolio
  • Manage their litigation portfolio by working collaboratively with colleagues in Legal, Compliance, Government Affairs and Communications, as well as business stakeholders
  • Effectively direct, manage, and develop outside counsel
  • Provide proactive, solution-oriented advice and counseling to support and protect business goals and objectives, including litigation mitigation and avoidance
  • Employ highly polished and effective communication, listening, and writing skills, with a focus on interaction with and reporting to senior managers and executive leadership
  • Demonstrate business acumen and understanding of the Cigna enterprise
  • Participate in and contribute positively within Cigna Legal’s community

Qualifications:

  • J.D. and active state bar membership(s) is required
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of healthcare litigation experience at a top firm, with the federal government, and/or in-house is required
  • White collar experience, as well as experience with state and federal regulators, is required
  • Experience with laws impacting pharmacy benefit management (PBM) companies is preferred
  • Strong people skills
  • Ability to present complex legal issues to non-lawyers
  • Demonstrated good judgment

  • Willingness to travel occasionally
  • *This role requires someone to be in the office 50% of the time.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload. For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 148,400 - 247,300 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
