HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE:The Corporate Counsel is a critical player in the Chicago Cubs Legal Department and will provide legal support to business units across the Chicago Cubs organization and its affiliated entities. The position will report directly to the Associate General Counsel and will provide support on all legal matters, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating routine agreements, assisting in corporate and transactional workload, and litigation support. This position will require excellent business judgment, adept problem-solving and strategic thinking, with an ability to work independently and collaboratively in a collegial, fast-paced environment. THE DAY-TO-DAY:Review, draft and negotiate a variety of agreements including vendor services and programming agreements, commercial agreements, waivers, event contracts, non-disclosure agreements, marketing and sponsorship agreements, technology and software agreements, suite licenses, and real estate agreementsAdvise and assist on advertising and marketing initiatives, including sweepstakes, contests and promotions, and privacy matters, including drafting rules, releases, and reviewing promotional and creative materialsAssist with developing, implementing and improving policies and compliance procedures company wideAssist with corporate governance and corporate finance matters, as requestedSupport legal team with the management of various litigation matters, including by assisting with legal research and document productionEnsure and monitor compliance with contractual obligations and relevant law, including privacy and data protection laws and regulationsAssist with administering and supporting the legal department’s contract management systemSupport business partners with respect to legal issues surrounding operationsHelp facilitate the day-to-day operations and workload of an in-house legal departmentWork closely with and assist General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, Associate General Counsel, and other legal team membersAll other duties, as assigned WHAT YOU’LL BRING:A Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and admission to practice in IllinoisTwo to four years of legal experience required, preferably with an in-house legal departmentExperience drafting and reviewing contracts requiredExperience in legal matters related to event and facility operations, commercial contracts, labor and employment, data privacy, intellectual property, and/or advertising initiatives encouragedSuperior written and oral communication skills, including ability to translate legal reasoning for non-lawyersOrganizational skills and business acumenStrong attention to detailExcellent interpersonal skills; ability to build strong, collaborative and consultative relationships with key business partnersAbility to maintain the highest level of confidentialityAbility to prioritize workload and use time efficientlyFlexibility and the ability to work non-standard hours as needed TOTAL REWARDS: On-site parkingTransit benefitsPaid time off: Personal, Sick & Vacation TimeCasual work attire environmentComplimentary Meal & beverage planCubs home game ticket allotmentAccess to campus wide Wrigley Field events & pre-sales401K Plan Employee Contribution & Employer MatchBenefit Plans: Medical, Dental, Vision & Life InsuranceHealth & Wellness engagement & programmingVariety of associate special events, volunteer opportunities and partnership discountsAccess to online associate recognition & rewards platformTuition Reimbursement
