Intellectual Property Legal Group Operations

We are looking for a dynamic addition to our Intellectual Property (IP) team. Someone who is flexible and curious with no “sharp elbows.”

Come join our expanding group of 22 IP professionals, managing a diverse global portfolio of patents and trademarks. We are looking to add an experienced paralegal to support our IP Operations team. The IP Operations team provides support to our team of IP attorneys, agents, and managers, and handles the daily operations of patent and trademark portfolio management, outside firm management, training, docketing, budgeting, invoice review, annuities, patent analysis and searching.

What You’ll Do

Patent:

  • Patent portfolio management including billing, analytics, research, and docketing.
  • Coordinate with internal and external counsel on U.S. and international patent filings and patent prosecution.

Trademark:

  • Trademark portfolio management including renewals, billing, and docketing.
  • Coordinate with internal and external counsel on U.S. and international trademark filings and prosecution, and partner with business units to review and clear product names and collect specimens of use for trademark renewals.

General Operations:

  • Develop and maintain procedures and playbooks.
  • Database management and database workflow development.
  • Assist on special legal, IP, and analytics projects.
  • Prepare quarterly IP newsletter.
  • Training regarding Lam procedures and IP portfolio management system will be provided; however, the candidate is expected to have prior experience handling most of the responsibilities described above.

Who We’re Looking For

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience as a patent and trademark paralegal in a corporate legal department or a private law firm working with corporate clients.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Paralegal Certificate preferred.
  • Be intellectually curious, creative, innovative, and approachable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have detailed knowledge of the patent and trademark prosecution lifecycles.
  • Have detailed knowledge of patent and trademark laws in the U.S. and international jurisdictions, including the Madrid System.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, writing, research, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office and similar technologies including portfolio management systems and USPTO Patent Center, TEAS, and TSDR systems.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English with the ability to effectively communicate with colleagues around the world.
