The Associate Counsel serves as a legal advisor, advocate, and defender, consistent with the mission, values, and strategic objectives of the organization. This position will focus on advising on healthcare reimbursement issues and negotiating payor contracts. This role can be on-site, hybrid, or fully remote.

Job Responsibilities:

Maintains expertise and advises appropriate department members regarding legal developments within area of managed careActively seeks out opportunities to maintain compliance within managed care areas of the law.Provides timely responses to requests for legal advice for managed care (specifically payor contracts).Identifies and implements measures to bring effective legal services to the organization.Collaborates and provides leadership on projects and teams within the Law Department and the organization.Other duties as assigned.

Education:

Juris Doctor (JD) from ABA accredited law school.Command of basic federal health law regulations, including Stark, fraud and abuse, EMTALA, HIPAA

Certifications:

Member in good standing of the Ohio bar or another U.S. bar, with ability to become a member of, or a corporate counsel registered with, the Ohio bar within a reasonable period of time.

Complexity of Work:

Exercises independent judgment and discretion to perform legal services.Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.Must be able to take appropriate action in a stressful environment.

Work Experience:

Two to five years of legal specialty experience in health care regulatory law, having a command of basic federal health law regulations (including Stark, fraud and abuse, EMTALA, HIPAA) required, either in-house or in a law firmExperience negotiating agreements/contracts preferred.Experience with nonprofit healthcare, reimbursement, managed care, and/or value-based care preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.Ability to travel throughout the hospital system.Ability to operate a computer, audio visual and other office equipment. Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information, including the ability to deliver training in person and virtually.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $53.90

Maximum hourly: $82.19

The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. While the pay range is displayed as an hourly rate, Cleveland Clinic recruiters will clarify whether the compensation is hourly or salary. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set, and education.
