POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate General Counsel reports to the Chief Legal Officer and will serve as a legal subject matter expert in Employment Law. The ideal candidate will have experience in employment law, preferably in a corporate setting, and will be well-versed in federal and state labor regulations, policies, and best practices. The in-house employment attorney will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating employment contracts and agreements, advising on employee relations and compliance issues, conducting investigations and trainings, and representing the company in litigation and arbitration.

This position is located on-site at our Corporate Headquarters in Appleton, WI and is not open to remote work. Relocation assistance will be considered for candidates not in the Appleton, WI area.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment contracts, agreements, policies, handbooks, and other documents related to employment matters.
  • Advise management and human resources on various employment-related issues, such as hiring, termination, discipline, compensation, benefits, leaves, accommodations, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and whistleblowing.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations, such as EEO, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, OSHA, and WARN.
  • Conduct internal investigations and audits on employment-related matters and prepare reports and recommendations.
  • Develop and deliver trainings and presentations on employment law topics to management and employees.
  • Represent the company in employment litigation and arbitration, including responding to complaints, discovery requests, motions, and subpoenas, and attending hearings, depositions, mediations, and settlements.
  • Monitor and update the company on the latest developments and trends in employment law and best practices.
  • Manage and coordinate with outside counsel and vendors as needed

  • Travel +/-10% of time as required
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

  • License to practice law in any state.

  • 13 years of experience in employment law, preferably in a corporate setting.

  • Excellent knowledge of federal and state labor laws and regulations.

  • Strong drafting, negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various stakeholders.

  • High ethical standards and professionalism.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research tools.
