Responsibilities

Kent E. Gorsuch & Associates, insurance staff counsel for State Farm Insurance companies, is seeking paralegals to join our Detroit Claim Litigation office in Southfield, MI. We are hiring for the Litigation Team and the Discovery Team. Everyone in a hybrid role is required to spend some time in the office. Work arrangements could change over time based on business needs.

Located in Southfield, Michigan we enjoy an active, busy civil trial practice. We provide a congenial, team-oriented professional work environment with skilled support staff.

Litigation Paralegal

Qualified candidates will have civil litigation and insurance defense experience, the ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and the ability to prioritize workload in a time sensitive environment. Responsibilities will include supporting 2-3 attorneys with discovery related tasks, medical record summaries/chronologies, case evaluation/facilitation summaries, motion writing, legal research, and trial preparation.

Discovery Paralegal

Responsibilities for this role will include drafting first party discovery responses and preparing materials for production, including appropriate redactions. The ideal candidate will have experience with No-Fault law, knowledge of the civil litigation process, redacting materials, and drafting first party discovery responses. Competitive candidates will have the ability to work independently, communicate effectively, collaborate with peers, and prioritize workload while meeting critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Litigation Paralegal

  • Prior litigation or paralegal experience, paralegal degree/certificate/certification, medical training, or relevant coursework or legal studies degree is required
  • 3-5 years of No Fault and civil litigation experience, preferably Insurance Defense or Personal Injury Experience
  • Background of managing a high-volume litigation docket, including, drafting written discovery for 1st and 3rd party litigation, reviewing medical records, writing and preparing case evaluation/facilitation summaries, and drafting motions
  • Familiarity with Court Rules and Procedures
  • Strong software/technical skills specifically Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience working in an electronic/digital environment

Discovery Paralegal

  • Prior litigation or paralegal experience, paralegal degree/certificate/certification, medical training, or relevant coursework or legal studies degree is required
  • No Fault experience and knowledge of the civil litigation process
  • Ability to proactively manage a high volume of discovery and production material preparation with a detail-oriented focus
  • Demonstrated legal knowledge in the practice of litigation, specifically discovery
  • Familiarity with court rules and civil procedures
  • Ability to work autonomously while being a member of a cohesive team
  • Strong computer skills and experience working in an electronic/digital environment including
  • Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
