Our Sr. Legal Counsel will be a part of a team of inhouse lawyers who provide commercial legal support by drafting and negotiating commercial agreements for our client groups. While in this role, you will also advise clients regarding commercial agreements, business opportunities and compliance with internal policies and applicable laws.

What You Will Do

  • Provide advice and commercial legal support to Enbridge’s Gas Distribution, Storage, and exploration and production businesses.
  • Draft, review, negotiate and approve standard and customize commercial agreements relating to business development initiatives, gas exploration and production, demand-side management / energy conservation programs, suppliers, operations projects, and key customers, including associated preliminary agreements and credit documentation.
  • Research and prepare draft correspondence, opinions and presentations as required.
  • Contribute to and deliver training on the Contracts Policy, and as required, specific contractual relationships, internal policies, safety, and corporate initiatives.
  • Collaborate with legal colleagues (Regulatory, Litigation, Corporate Secretarial, Privacy, Ethics & Compliance), other central functions (Supply Chain Management, Credit, Insurance), and other business units, as required.
  • Advise management on potential legal ramifications/risks of a course of action.
  • Apply independent judgment in recommending strategies and courses of action for client departments.
  • Interact with counterparties and their legal counsel and advisors as required, including negotiation with counterparties and the preparation or review of relevant documents.
  • Engage, instruct and manage outside counsel to ensure services are provided in an efficient and cost effective manner.

Who You Are

You have:

  • 8+ years of commercial legal experience, either in-house or at a leading firm along with a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and licensed within the United States
  • Experience preparing, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of agreements

You Can

  • Show excellent organizational, project management and facilitation skills
  • Work independently, make decisions and meet multiple deadlines

You Are

  • An excellent written and verbal communicator at the executive level who showcases strong leadership and people skills while also having meticulous attention to detail, but pragmatic in approach
  • Highly developed in identifying and responding to commercial legal issues on short notice, and under strict time constraints

Physical Requirements Include But Are Not Limited To

Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
