  • JD degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
  • Experience with patent litigation.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.

Preferred qualifications:

 

  • Experience with intellectual property litigation and disputes, including PTAB (Patent Trial and Appeal Board) proceedings.
  • Experience with the online industry and Google products and technologies.
  • Knowledge of privacy, consumer protection, antitrust, contract, content moderation/safety, or IP law issues in a technology context.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with leadership and management of cases.

The Litigation Team at Google is dedicated to advising Google on a wide variety of complex legal matters that pose litigation risk to our products and businesses around the world. We specialize in giving legal advice about litigation risks, and coming up with creative ways to mitigate and eliminate those risks. We also strive to think proactively, and advance Google’s position and interests with respect to legal policy based on litigation risks that we anticipate.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $224,000-$319,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

 

  • Manage all aspects of intellectual property litigation and disputes, including defining and executing strategy, reviewing all briefing and filings, preparing for depositions and working with witnesses, determining dispute resolution approaches. Draft pleadings and discovery requests, take and defend depositions, and develop the infrastructure required to prevent disputes from arising.
  • Work closely with various Legal, Product and Business team members to provide counseling on intellectual property disputes.
  • Partner with outside counsel to take an active role in intellectual property litigation and disputes.
  • Collaborate with other external in-house counsel and legal organizations on intellectual property dispute and policy matters.
