The Associate General Counsel—Labor and Employment will provide advice and counsel to Verizon management and human resources on a variety of employment and labor matters and manage a litigation docket.

Responsibilities:

  • With respect to employment-related matters, the attorney will have had deep experience in advising clients with respect to employment laws such as Title VII (and state law analogs), the Fair Labor Standards Act (and state wage and hour laws), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) and WARN (and state law analogs).

  • In addition to day-to-day counseling, the attorney will be experienced in handling external charges, investigations and audits by federal and state administrative agencies, such as the EEOC, DOL, NLRB and OFCCP.

  • The attorney will also own a litigation docket and be responsible for supervising outside counsel in the defense of employment-related single plaintiff and class action lawsuits.

  • Some experience in traditional labor matters is also preferred; specifically, the ideal candidate will have experience in union organizing campaigns, collective bargaining, disciplinary grievances, contract interpretation, providing labor advice in corporate transactions, handling unfair labor practice charges before the NLRB, and/or preparing and conducting training programs supporting labor relations.
