This position supports the VP, US Legal Counsel providing legal advice and legal support on various issues. The position has a heavy emphasis on negotiating various types of contracts, providing legal advice on corporate and commercial issues, and interfacing the management and various business groups within the Company with respect to legal issues and risks.
Essential Functions
- Work closely with the VP, US Legal Counsel on legal, commercial, regulatory, operational and legal compliance issues
- Assist in the negotiation and drafting of various contracts, including but not limited to power purchase agreements, construction agreements, financial transactions, corporate documents, and lease documents.
- Interface with management and various business groups to provide legal advice on a wide range of issues, such as corporate law, contracts, litigation, insurance, business development and finance.
- Develop and implement legal strategies and policies to minimize litigation, third party disputes, and other potential legal and business issues.
- Research and provide guidance on relevant legal and regulatory issues, and assist the organization to maintain compliance with statutes, regulations, and industry rules
- Manage outside counsel on various projects and matters
- Other Responsibilities
- Provide support for special projects and performs other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
- Juris Doctorate degree form an ABA accredited law school and membership in at least one US state bar
- Minimum 5 years of legal experience. In house experience preferred, but not required
- Working knowledge of renewables, permitting, and energy industry eules and regulations at the state, regional and Federal levels
- Must be able to read, write and speak English at a level which will permit the employee to accurately understand and communicate information to effectively perform the job duties. Additional languages preferred, but not required
- Must have strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Must have strong research, drafting and negotiating skills
- Must have high level of integrity, discretion, judgment and the ability to work independently
- Must have strong independent judgment and decision-making skills, and the ability to multi-task
- Must be able to use applicable computer software as needed
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work in an office environment
- The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor for long periods of time and stay alert
- The position requires the ability to travel as required
