Team Intro
The TikTok USDS Legal & Compliance team manages and oversees legal, privacy, and regulatory matters pertaining to TikTok USDS's operations. We collaborate cross-functionally and globally to address some of the most complex and intriguing issues in e-commerce, product development, and consumer protection. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Counsel to support our e-commerce and product teams. The Legal Counsel will play a crucial role in conducting legal reviews of e-commerce products and features, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and supporting the development of legal strategies that balance risk mitigation with business objectives.

In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough legal reviews of e-commerce products, features, and initiatives to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Analyze and provide guidance on consumer protection issues related to e-commerce products, including terms of service, user agreements, and product descriptions
- Assist in reviewing advertising and marketing materials for e-commerce products to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and company policies
- Support the assessment of intellectual property matters related to e-commerce products, including trademark and copyright considerations
- Collaborate with senior counsel to develop and implement legal strategies that mitigate risks while supporting business goals for e-commerce initiatives
- Partner with Global Product Legal and Privacy and Data Protection Office, becoming a trusted advisor on USDS's product legal requirements.
- Provide guidance on a wide range of product developments, both front-end and back-end, including short-form mobile video products, live-streaming products, and related products.
- Review proposed product integrations, new and updated features and services, and new applications and initiatives, to identify if they are in scope for USDS, and identify mitigations and appropriate compliance controls.
- Contribute to building legal processes that foster simplicity, are scalable, mitigate risk, and allow product teams flexibility and freedom to move quickly.
- Identify and address needs for training, guidelines, and playbooks to support the product teams.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
- J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) with membership in good standing in a US state bar.
- 3+ years of experience in e-commerce and product counseling, with a focus on the technology industry.
- Proven track record in managing and advising complex e-commerce and product matters.
- Experience in an in-house legal department specializing in regulatory, consumer protection, and product matters.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of intellectual property law and software licensing.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven track record of managing multiple projects and prioritizing effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong focus on compliance and ensuring commitments are honored.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with privacy and data protection principles is a plus

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (annually) The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $140000 - $240000 annually.​ Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.​ Our company benefits are designed to convey company culture and values, to create an efficient and inspiring work environment, and to support our employees to give their best in both work and life.
