Job Summary

  • Assists with the preparation, review and management of discovery.
  • Assists in-house counsel in setting up and managing legal files.  Organizes, indexes and maintains large volumes of case-related documents. 
  • Coordinates interrogatory responses, requests for documents, and depositions for litigation.  Reviews and analyzes basic court documents and drafts appropriate pleadings and other court documents for review by in-house counsel.
  • Conducts legal and factual research to support litigation strategy.
  • Monitors ongoing proceedings to identify applicable orders, pleadings, and due dates.
  • Prepares exhibits, trial binders and other materials needed for hearings and trials.
  • Assists in-house counsel and outside counsel by coordinating and scheduling meetings, filing court documents and maintaining detailed case files.
  • Prepares, updates and submits monthly and quarterly litigation reports for Law Department, Business Units and Accounting/Finance.  
  • Works with business units in responding to various legal requests including subpoenas and other court documents.
  • Responds to request from insurers on status of litigation matters covered by insurance. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Paralegal I  - 0-2 years of paralegal or related legal support experience.
Paralegal II - 2+ years of paralegal or related legal support experience Mastery of skills at the Paralegal I level.

 

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include: 

  • Knowledge of law in the area supported.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and research skills.
  • Ability to recognize and evaluate legal concepts.
  • Ability to work under multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and decision making in organizing and conducting work assignments.
  • Ability to perform duties under minimal or no supervision. 

 

Education Requirements

Required Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree):

 GED

High School Graduate

 

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Paralegal certificate, degree or certification.

 

Working Conditions

Office Work Environment 76 -100%
