GEICO’s Enterprise Engineering team is seeking an experienced Sr. Manager with a passion for legal application management and navigating complex systems & tooling across multiple departments and teams. This Sr. Manager will be a key contributor in guiding the strategy and engineering work within the newly formed Legal Technology team - responsible for planning, prioritizing, and leading implementations within the Legal Technology domain. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in applying program & project management skills, legal domain expertise, and business acumen while collaborating with engineering peers and wide variety of legal stakeholders. Timely delivery of impactful projects that enhance GEICO’s legal service delivery will be a focus.

Position Responsibilities

As a Sr. Manager, Engineering Operations within Legal Technology, you will:

  • Leverage experience in legal technology delivery (e.g., eDiscovery, document and knowledge management, legal workflow automation, AI with legal, CLM, eBilling & matter management, etc.) to enhance existing applications or build new ones to support the Legal Department.
  • Partner with the Legal Department stakeholders and delivery teams to build a roadmap, release quality solutions on time and within budget
  • Help streamline legal processes and drive towards the right solution to support the Legal Department’s current and future needs
  • Create, maintain, and actively manage a detailed project schedule, change control process, and documentation, while coordinating project activities across multiple systems, departments, and teams
  • Report on your team’s progress for key projects and other important measurables, in addition to presenting detailed plans to mitigate identified project risks
  • Craft and deliver strategic and well-structured persuasive arguments to drive projects that drive process improvement, enhance cost leadership, and/or customer experience
  • Develop the team budget and be accountable for reporting on results achieved at regular intervals
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle and across Engineering to solve our toughest problems
  • Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in the legal technology space
  • Help support the transformation of GEICO’s insurance business as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission.

Qualifications

  • Strong program & project management skills with proven experience coordinating projects across multiple teams, with successful delivery at scale
  • Exposure to the legal domain to appropriately interpret requirements into system solutions, while understanding how requirements and design choices may impact systems across the enterprise
  • Ability to understand legal processes to ensure data, integrations, and solutions are well designed
  • Ability to communicate and work directly with business leaders across Technology and Legal with a high level of professionalism and emotional intelligence.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, and influencing skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, including the ability to clearly document findings, proposals, issues, and status
  • Experience developing a roadmap, reporting out on project status, and assessing (then mitigating) areas of timeline or budget risk
  • Demonstrated track record of constructing, interpreting, and applying metrics to your work and decision making, with ability to use those metrics to identify correlation between drivers and results, and using that information to drive prioritization and action
  • Proficiency in work item management tools such as Azure DevOps
  • Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments
  • An ownership mentality while navigating a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly
  • A genuine interest to build and maintain relationships with people at all levels and across organizational and geographic boundaries

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in program management, project management, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in managing large-scale projects working in or closely with legal teams or law firms
  • Excellent understanding of Waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • Experience within insurance industry is a plus
  • Lean, Six Sigma, PMI/PMP, or Scrum certifications are a plus

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in technology, computing, engineering, business administration, or related field; or equivalent experience

Annual Salary

$130,000.00 - $260,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
