Overview

AmTrust is seeking an experienced Director for its Workers’ Compensation Staff Counsel Offices in New York . This Office represents policyholders and AmTrust affiliated insurance carriers administered by AmTrust North America. The Director is responsible for day-to-day in-house operations including, but not limited to, managing staff attorneys and administrative personnel, overseeing physical and digital infrastructures, pending inventory and referrals. He/She will have complete oversight of operational protocols and workflows and will be accountable for achieving goals based on a strong grasp of key performance indicators. The Director must have a well-grounded understanding of and uphold the mission, vision, and core values of AmTrust North America.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate should be a multi-faceted, flexible, and adaptable leader who can perform the duties and tasks outlined below in addition to responsibilities that may come to fruition as Staff Counsel continues it trajectory of growth and expansion:

  • Case File Mastery: Oversee all litigated cases represented by the office from intake to closure, ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of cases. Ensure appropriate conflict checks are completed at intake and throughout the course of litigation.
  • Expert Litigation Platform Management: Assign referrals, manage the litigation calendar, and ensure that all mandatory reports are generated using the applicable litigation management platform.
  • Strategic Oversight: Monitor and reinforce high-level performance of the team and ensure that all data affecting key performance indicators are documented and properly maintained in the appropriate platform for accurate reporting to high-level management.
  • Analytical Insight: Utilize data and analytics to accurately identify trends that affect individual attorney and overall office performance. Develop and implement initiatives geared towards achieving savings in legal and indemnity spends, drive high quality case outcomes, and provide excellent customer service year-over-year. Collaborate with the Litigation Management Unit in developing best practices and strategies that can drive results consistent with the standards and vision of the Company.
  • Compliance Leadership: Review and audit individual attorney and overall office compliance with timely and appropriate reporting per the Litigation Management Guidelines.
  • Training and Support: Mentor and create training programs geared towards continued education and skill development of staff attorneys and non-counsel employees within the Team. Foster a culture of talent development while keenly identifying opportunities for growth of high performing employees.
  • Collaboration and Customer Service: Collaborate with clients and insureds, the Claims Department, other AmTrust Departments, and external business partners via committee meetings, roundtables, trainings, and conferences, and effectively provide legal counsel and guidance on all workers’ compensation matters.
  • Ensure that all staff attorneys are licensed to practice in the State, in good standing, and are compliant with mandatory CLE requirements.
  • Appropriately supervise non-counsel personnel to ensure ethical compliance with prevailing legal requirements and industry practices.
  • Coordinate with the Law Office Manager to ensure that adequate and efficient administrative support and resources are fully integrated in the operational workflows and processes of the office.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • State bar licensed attorney, in good standing to practice law, and current on CLE requirements
  • 10+ years of in-house or law firm management with proven ability supervising and mentoring staff attorneys in a high-performing environment
  • 10+ years of relevant practice group litigation experience
  • A subject matter expert in prevailing litigation and market trends, state laws, local court policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Exemplary legal research, technical, written, and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work product
  • Superior organizational, analytical, and time management skills
  • Proven record of effective cross-group collaboration and strategic thinking
  • Possess a high level of integrity, professionalism, and emotional intelligence (EQ)
  • Initiative-taking and committed to enhancing team dynamics and fostering a positive work environment
  • This is a hybrid position in compliance with the Company’s prevailing Flex Work Policy
  • Due to the nature of this role, travel is required

Preferred

  • Licensed to practice and good standing in multiple States
  • Experience with Litify

The salary range for this role is $190K - $205K per year. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics. This range may be modified in the future.
