We are seeking a senior compliance attorney to join Roblox’ legal department. You will have a critical role in developing and implementing Roblox’s compliance program under the UK Online Safety Act, the Digital Services Act and GDPR in the EU, CCPA, as well as other similar laws in the US and abroad.

This role requires an individual well-versed in regulatory laws and operational compliance practices, including with respect to privacy, moderation efforts, risk assessments, safety efforts, cybersecurity, financial reporting requirements, and payments.

This role reports into the Associate General Counsel and will be located at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA.

You Will:

• Develop and implement comprehensive user safety compliance strategies and programs in alignment with the OSA and other relevant regulations.
• Create and implement relevant policies and procedures.
• Conduct risk assessments to identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues.
• Track remediation efforts.
• Perform compliance program testing to assess adherence to the compliance management system and maintain compliance calendar.
• Support cross-functional efforts to integrate a compliance management platform.
• Stay informed of emerging regulatory changes, trends, technology advances and best practices.
• Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities such as OFCOM and industry stakeholders.
• Establish, lead and mentor a team of compliance professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Act as point of contact and subject matter authority to the external auditors and regulators.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, policy, privacy, trust and safety, advertising, economy and legal teams to embed a strategic approach to risk and compliance.
• Prepare and submit regulatory filings, certifications, and documentation as required by applicable laws and standards.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all user safety compliance matters, both internally and externally.
• Maintain an independent approach and effectively challenge where necessary to achieve a robust second line of defense.
• Be a champion for a positive risk and compliance culture

You Have:

• J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• 15+ years of practicing legal experience, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience; preferably experience in a compliance monitoring team, ideally in a regulated environment such as a platform, marketplace or financial services.
• Experience with one of the following, or related, legal areas: product or regulatory counseling, privacy, or data protection.
• Proven track record of successfully building and maintaining complex risk and control environments.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and apply them to business operations.
• Proactive self-starter, with the ability and willingness to take a lead on novel and complex regulatory requirements.
• Outstanding communication skills that allow you to interact with a wide variety of individuals.
• Comfortable advocating a strong point of view to executives and leadership.
• Be a great teammate, be adaptable and willing to partner with teams from across the business.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
