The Community Choice Financial® Family of Brands is currently seeking a Regulatory Counsel. The Regulatory Counsel is responsible for providing strategic advisory services, oversight, and guidance on regulatory requirements and compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. The role adaptively provides new solutions to achieve results to identify, reduce, and manage regulatory and reputational risk. In addition, you will manage people resources to develop, communicate and maintain regulatory framework that aligns with regulatory requirements, and assist the Company in managing and mitigating regulatory risk. This person will also manage the licensing activities of the Company through submitting new licensing applications, renewals, and managing the corporate structure of the Company. The Regulatory Counsel will report directly to the Deputy General Counsel and will serve as an essential team member within the Legal Department.
Essential Responsibilities
- Serves as regulatory subject matter expert with focus on consumer lending laws and state statutes and advises various internal partners regarding regulatory requirements and expectations and management of related legal and regulatory risk.
- Monitors relevant legislative, regulatory, and supervisory developments, and assists with analyzing and advising internal stakeholders on the impact of those developments.
- Engages with regulators regarding key regulatory areas of focus as necessary through the examination process or through relationship building.
- Guides and support the activities of the regulatory exam management team as needed.
- Creates and revises Company documents in accordance with changes in regulatory or statutory provisions.
- Collaborates routinely with other members of the legal team and functional and business groups as part of a variety of cross-functional teams.
- Responds to questions from and provides advice to other groups and employees, regarding the application of regulatory policies and procedures.
- Builds key relationships across the company to effectively and efficiently deliver results.
- Provides effective challenge on processes, regulatory changes, controls, and deficiency remediation.
- Participates in a broad range of other legal and risk-related matters as needed from time to time.
- Reviews all Company marketing, training, and communication to employees and customers.
- Leads the licensing team responsible for applying for, renewing, and maintaining all Company licenses and effectively manages Company entity formation, corporate documentation, and winddowns.
- Facilitates opportunities to expand product offerings in new markets.
- Engages external counsel and resources as needed.
- Maintain a full-time work schedule with regular, in-person attendance during normal business hours, at a minimum, 40 hours per week.
- Ability to meet the physical demands for this position, which frequently include: the ability to remain in a stationary position, move about freely inside and occasionally outside of the office, and the operation of mechanical controls, such as a keyboard.
Minimum Qualifications
- Licensed lawyer with at least 7 years of experience in banking, regulatory, and related matters
- Experience in a major law firm and/or in-house position preferred
- Graduate of an accredited law school
- Strong academic record
