As Corporate Counsel , you will collaborate with business groups to provide legal support on federal and state regulatory proceedings, risk identification, and mitigation strategies to influence the organization's strategic direction. Specifically working with internal partners in supply management, finance, IT, and other stakeholders on strategic contracting, negotiations, and administration, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality contracts and providing strategic legal advice.

Engaging in diverse legal work, as Corporate Counsel , you are responsible for contract drafting and negotiation to align legal terms with business goals and effectively mitigate risks in procurement and supplier goods and services, leveraging knowledge of regulatory frameworks, corporate legal practices, and transactional law.

We are looking for exceptional, highly organized candidates with demonstrated ability to proactively identify, anticipate, and communicate business needs with legal and strategic advice to exceed client and subject matter expert expectations and continue to develop and improve contract templates and playbooks for use across MISO.

In one year as a MISO Corporate Counsel, you will know you were successful if you:

  • Contribute to the continued implementation of the contract management system while drafting, reviewing, editing, and negotiating complex procurement contracts, including master agreements, statements of work, custom software development agreements, managed service agreements, and software/hardware licensing and support agreements.
  • Responsible for contract negotiations with vendors, proactively communicating updates and key decisions to achieve objectives, while providing thought partnership and legal counsel.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and risk reduction strategies, establish strong relationships with team members and business partners, and demonstrate a collaborative approach in executing job duties.
  • Influence and drive implementation of department goals to operationally align with corporate strategy and objectives.

What we are looking for:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
  • At least 5 years of related legal experience
  • License to practice law in any US state or the District of Columbia.

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
