In this newly created position, the Head of Legal Operations will support Legal team leadership in overseeing the business management of the team to drive operating excellence, efficiency and superb client service. The position will oversee all budget, process and operating aspects of Meta’s outside counsel and legal vendor relationships, working closely with Legal leadership and Finance partners; and will oversee leadership of Meta Legal’s Technology Solutions, Program Management, and Legal Data and Software Development teams in delivering innovative solutions to enhance team efficiency. In these capacities, the Head of Legal Operations will focus on optimizing Meta’s legal spend and proactive management of strong partnerships with outside counsel, and integrating AI-driven solutions and other new technologies into the work of the team. The role will report to the Vice President & Deputy General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and will interface with Finance, HR and other cross-functional partners across the team and company. The position will support the CLO and Legal team leadership in driving a teamwide culture of professional excellence and efficiency. This role will require an individual who has a strong combination of legal and business expertise, communication skills, project and relationship management, negotiation and analytical skills. This individual will be a seasoned leader who can successfully drive change in an organization of Meta’s size and complexity. This is a unique opportunity to lead a global operations team and play an integral role in managing strong outside counsel relationships, driving innovation and efficiency in the delivery of legal services, and deploying best in class management skills to serve a world-class legal department.

Head of Legal Operations Responsibilities:

  • Devise, implement, and oversee outside vendor, technology and operations management and strategy for Meta’s Legal organization, working closely with the company’s CLO, legal leadership and finance teams
  • Lead and oversee Meta's outside counsel management program with the aim of building and strengthening partnerships
  • provide creative thinking to develop cost efficiencies while maintaining excellent legal representation
  • Maintain contracts and coordinate the delivery of service from all vendors and service providers to minimize overlap and reduce cost
  • Lead global planning for process optimization including the Legal department’s use of existing technology, services and processes, and advance the team’s effectiveness through new technology/processes such as AI
  • Manage the leadership team responsible for Meta Legal’s Technology Solutions, Program Management, and Legal Data and Software Development teams and be responsible for leading a high performing, goal oriented organization
  • Partner with senior leadership to ensure projects/processes are moving forward, deadlines are being met, and the leadership team is apprised of status on projects or initiatives

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree
  • 12+ years of legal/operational experience, including litigation or other practice experience (in-house or outside counsel) and experience managing operational issues for a sizeable legal organization
  • Experience managing the process for hiring and overseeing outside counsel and other legal vendors and driving efficiencies in this space
  • Experience overseeing contracts and legal terms with outside counsel, specifically proven experience negotiating effectively and ensuring that the company's interests are protected
  • Experience using and managing technology processes, procedures, and programs utilized by in-house legal departments
  • Proven record of leading, managing, developing and motivating high performing, inclusive teams across geographical regions
  • Experience forging relationships, advising c-suite leaders and key stakeholders across large-scale, global companies
  • Experience successfully working in a highly collaborative manner across a variety of business functions and geographies
  • Experience in a fast paced, high growth, and entrepreneurial culture
  • Demonstrated experience quickly identifying the key issues in complex situations and building actionable plans to proactively address them
  • Executive-level business acumen in the areas of business operations, industry practices and emerging trends required
  • Proven understanding of legal department operations, especially operating models between outside counsel and the department
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, outside counsel management, data & analytics and systems implementation and management
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills at all levels of an organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or financial management oversight experience preferred

$282,000/year to $328,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
