Job Summary

Sega of America (Sega) is seeking a talented attorney to oversee its privacy and data protection legal matters and serve as Sega’s Data Protection Officer (DPO), reporting to Sega’s EVP, Head of Legal & Business Affairs. We may hire a Sr Counsel or at the Director level depending on experience level. The successful candidate will provide privacy and data protection counseling, advice, and support for cross-functional teams (e.g., Mobile, Ad Monetization, Game Production, Marketing, Legal, Privacy & Compliance, and other business teams) and across regions (U.S., Japan, Europe) to successfully execute company initiatives and mitigate legal risk.

Qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Identify and investigate key privacy and data elements affecting Sega’s business.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of company-wide governance framework and legal compliance related to privacy, data protection, and information security matters.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for privacy and data protection queries in the business.
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders located in U.S., Japan and Europe to provide strategic, practical, and business-oriented privacy law counsel and guidance in the design, development, marketing, and monetization of our products and services.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate privacy and data protection contracts and provisions.
  • Oversee the completion of privacy impact assessments.
  • Develop and deliver privacy trainings to various business functions and raise employee awareness of data privacy and security issues.
  • Stay up to date on changes in applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Manage other privacy personnel.
  • Any other tasks and responsibilities as determined by Sega.

Qualifications And Skills

 

  • J.D. degree and active membership in at least one US state bar, with a preference for California.
  • 6+ years (10+ years for Legal Director) of relevant legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm or in-house, counseling on data privacy and protection laws (including COPPA, CCPA, other state and federal privacy and consumer protection laws, GDPR).
  • Experience advising business executives on privacy legal risks and mitigations related to design, development, marketing, and monetization of products.
  • Sound business judgment and practical counseling skills.
  • Strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines relevant to video games.
  • Experience working cross-functionally to advance projects in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Experience working with international teams.
  • Privacy certification (CIPP/US, CIPP/E).
