About The Role

Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies.

We’re looking for an attorney who will report directly to the Data Protection Officer, Associate General Counsel—Privacy. The attorney will serve in a leading privacy counsel role focusing on data protection in the organization, with an initial focus on privacy and security compliance.

We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is skilled at leading complex cross-functional initiatives, and is excited to support data protection compliance at Fivetran.

A risk-adjusted attorney who primarily brings a process and operations orientation to work as a Legal team member to help educate, build, and scale the programs as Fivetran scales. You will be responsible for building, maintaining, and improving the global privacy program at Fivetran.

The successful candidate will possess strong business acumen, given the strategic nature of the role, a right-sized risk calculus built from experience with privacy programs, and fluid managerial and communication skills. This person will be a leader both within the Legal team and across the company and can be based remotely or out of one of Fivetran’s US offices.

This is a full-time, remote position.

What You’ll Do

Work integrally as part of the Legal team to support the development of the strategy, delivery, and evaluation of the global privacy and security programs, including:

  • The development and implementation of appropriate policies and controls related to data privacy and security issues,
  • The establishment of monitoring procedures to ensure compliance with rules and regulations,
  • Collaboration with product, security, marketing, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to execute projects with a data protection compliance lens and
  • Program management support for the Data Protection Officer as needed
  • Monitor, advise, and provide written legal analyses on global (including country-specific) data protection requirements and considerations, including new, pending, and proposed domestic and global legislation
  • Conduct internal investigations relating to incident response and government inquiries, and assist with overseeing monitoring, responses, resolutions and reports

Skills We’re Looking For

  • Experience developing privacy programs for a global company and the ability to lead continued development, maintenance, and improvement of Fivetran’s global privacy program, including effective policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Experience working on privacy and security issues in the technology or consumer product space
  • Ability to effectively work with product, security, marketing, engineering teams, and other cross-functional teams on data privacy and/or compliance projects and advise on day-to-day questions about data privacy requirements
  • Ability to manage cross functional dependencies, escalations, risks, and changes effectively by optimizing scope, schedule, and resources accordingly, as well as develop and manage communication plans to effectively and proactively communicate program status, issues, and risks to stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically and creatively solve problems, enabling the business to take calculated and informed risks
  • Embody superior leadership, management, process, and relationship-building skills to accomplish the mission.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations such as legal oversight of incident response investigations

Bonus Skills

  • Technical or engineering background
  • Prior in-house experience at a growing company
  • Privacy Certifications: Organizations include IAPP (preferred), and ISACA: for IAPP, the best two are CIPP/E and CIPP/US, but CIPP/C, CIPP/A, CIPM, and CIPT

The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the target position and level. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Our job titles may span more than one career level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, business need, market demands. This range represents base salary only and does not include incentive for sales roles, equity, or benefits, if applicable.

Pay Range

$160,326.92—$192,400 USD
