About the team and position

Carvana is looking for a high capacity proactive and detail-oriented litigation professional to join our Labor & Employment team as Paralegal. This role primarily focuses on helping manage our litigation portfolio, which consists of pre-litigation claims and demands and administrative charges, as well as single plaintiff  and class based litigation in federal and state courts.  This role also assists with e-discovery practices, and providing administrative support with team projects. This role is located at corporate headquarters in Tempe, Arizona and reports to the Associate General Counsel, Labor and Employment.

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Work with company attorneys to manage labor and employment related litigation matters, including monitoring outside counsel’s compliance with case management plans, strategies, and internal guidelines. 
  • Efficiently gather and organize company records and other information relevant to assigned matters, and timely provide substantive analysis to assigned company attorneys.
  • Review and provide substantive analysis to company staff attorneys on work product prepared by outside counsel, including draft pleadings, discovery requests, and motions.
  • Maintain litigation case files and case related information using document and case  management systems. 
  • Review and analyze outside counsel invoices for compliance with company billing guidelines.
  • Conduct and compile research on labor and employment related matters.
  • Assist with e-discovery processes, including litigation holds and document collection efforts.
  • Identify litigation management process inefficiencies and create and implement solutions.
  • Lead projects and other deliverables as assigned by team leadership.
  • Establish and maintain excellent communication and positive relationships with business partners, outside counsel, and internal team members to ensure successful outcomes concerning labor and employment litigation and strategic business objectives.

 

What you should know/have

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience in a litigation support role. 
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as a private practice or in-house paralegal in a litigation-focused role.
  • Prior experience managing and organizing a variety of projects and tasks .
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and document management systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with various levels of stakeholders in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Ability to work in a flexible team environment with varied responsibility.
  • Consistent good judgment and ability to apply legal knowledge to help create practical business solutions.
  • Team-oriented personality and willingness to practice Carvana’s values at all times.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of documents and matters.
  • Ability to work independently, with tight deadlines, in a multi-tasking work environment to deliver highly accurate and timely work product.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to sit for up to eight hours per day with extensive use of computers.

 

We’d love it if you also have

  • Experience with Legal Tracker 
  • Experience using iManage, NetDocuments, or similar document management platform.
  • Experience in Labor & Employment litigation/legal practice.
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA accredited program.
